CD Notes:
The Beatles performed live before 55,000 screaming
fans at Shea Stadium, New York on the evening of Sunday
the 15th of August, 1965. What's presented on this Video-CD Is the complete television
program aired on
BBC1 on March 1, 1966. This documentary of The Beatles biggest live show also compiles the
support groups
such as Brenda Holloway, the King Kurtis Band and Sounds Incorporated.
The film begins with an excerpt of the closing performance "I'm Down", then cuts
to the preparations of the
Stadium for Sundays big performance, this Is overdubbed with narration from each of the
Beatles. The supports
acts are up next, then follows The Beatles helicopter ride to the grounds where they are
to perform to their
largest viewing audience ever. The concert musically was one of their finest from this
period, although these
performances were never captured on multitrack tape, the quality Is still enjoyable some
37 years on.
