RILEY MOTOR CARS -
Riley Specials

as Old as the Industry, as modern as the Hour

Introduction

Over the years, many people have created Their own cars, based on Riley running Gear. Most are simply re-using chassis where the bodywork was beyond repair. However, some are a little more special!

The first Riley Specials appeared in the 1920's, and by the 1930's there were a number of, now famous, people creating racing cars, or rally cars from Rileys.

Freddie Dixon

One of the most prolific was Freddie Dixon, after a long career on Motorbikes he transferred to cars, and immediately found success with Riley based racers.

John Treen

Another well-known special builder was John Treen, who adapted several Brooklands, as well as other models. There is now a CD ROM available giving a large amount of information on the Cars.

Duncan Ricketts

Although possibly better known for racing ERAs, Duncan Ricketts also built 2 Riley Specials. The newer one was built in the 1980's, and has been refined by it's current owner Clive Temple.
