Winter Camp 2004

Camping with the scouts is really great fun. All year round there are camps for budding scouts, young and old alike. Camping (occasionally) makes you smile.

Each year there are roughly 4 camps: one for each season. Each one is slightly different, and your scouting skills will be put to the test!

Below is an outline of a typical camp

In the wide games, you can be just like Lara - use your stealth skills to win!

On some camps you have to solve puzzles and find clues. More information on each of the camps can be found on the news letter that scouts are given before each one.

The day begins at 7 am, and after a quick breakfast of eggy bread, bacon and toast the work begins!

Activities vary, but most are fun fast-paced action games involving running, explosions,
fast-cars and girls!

Well..err..not really, but it's still pretty fun!

A scout describes the Christmas camp,

“On one camp staggering back to Gilwell Campsite we had an hour to change into black tie and Posh frocks to attend Christmas Dinner. The Committee had done a fantastic job in our absence and changed the Base into a Grotto, complete with Father Christmas and Presents. . .

. . .Our meal was delicious including home-made brandy butter. Service team awards were greeted with howls of approval and a superb disco entertained us for the rest of the evening until the wee small hours. It was a good idea that breakfast was arranged for 11am.

We did not win the challenge or even get many of the clues right but we did have a lot of laughs during the day and the evening was well organised so we only had to sit back and enjoy.”

I am a long time scouter and I have been on many a camp, all in all I have been on three. All of them have been extremely exciting and useful. I enjoy scouts a lot, mainly the camping side of things and cooking side of things. On scout camp you can be as jolly as my little pet leprechaun.

Camping is an activity that tests your camping skills and leadership qualities. Only the strong-willed and true-hearted will prevail. Like Conan the Librarian...oops...I mean Conan the Barbarian!
