Hay Fever

The hay fever season is nearly here. This year, the Little Surgery is running a number of acupuncture clinics for hay fever sufferers. If you are interested in trying acupuncture to prevent hay fever, please telephone and book an appointment.

Questionnaires

Heart Problems - Services Survey
In your replies to our Patient Consultation Questionnaire (see below), you asked us to improve the services we offer to patients with long-term illnesses. In addition, people suggested that meetings providing information about their illness would be useful. As a result, we decided to improve our services for patients with heart disease:
  1. We have set up a system of regular reviews with our nurses and doctors.
  2. We also held some educational evening meetings at the Arts Centre.

We wanted to see if these changes had helped our patients with heart disease. Therefore, we recently sent a questionnaire to every patient with heart problems registered with this practice. 113 questionnaires were sent out and we received 94 responses. Thank you to everyone who took part. If you are interested in the results, you can read a summary or the full report.

Patient Consultation Questionnaire
In 2001, we sent a detailed questionnaire to 10% of our patients, picked at random by the computer. We received nearly 300 useful replies and comments which helped us to develop our PMS proposal. You can read the summary of the results by downloading this Word document.
Or download the full results from here.

PMS Pilot

On the 1st April 2002, the Little Surgery became a PMS Pilot practice. We still remain an NHS family practice, but we have a different type of contract with the Health Service which allows us to put in place extra services. The questionnaire last year was very useful in helping us find out which sort of services our patients think are valuable.

You can find out more about our PMS Pilot proposal by downloading this Acrobat Reader file Little Surgery PMS.
You can learn more about PMS Pilot practices from this page on the Dept. of Health's Web site.

Primary Care Trust

Your Primary Care Trust, or PCT, is responsible for organising your local health care, for arranging hospital care and for improving the health of local people. The Little Surgery is part of Lincolnshire South West PCT and one of your GPs (Dr Livingstone) is Chair of the Executive Committee of the PCT.

It is important for patients and their carers to have a say in the decisions made by Primary Care Trusts. Meetings of the board of the Primary Care Trust are held once a month and are open to the public. You can attend these meetings, listen to the discussions and hear the decisions made by your PCT.

Further information about the PCT is available from:

WellDoc

If you need urgent medical attention after 6.30pm on weekdays, or after 12.00 midday on Saturday, phone the surgery in the usual way (01780 763308) and you will be given the WellDoc emergency number to ring.

What is WellDoc?

A group of local doctors have joined together to form this emergency cooperative service. This service is based at Stamford Hospital, and is staffed by trained receptionists and experienced local GPs. Your own doctors, Dr Fields and Dr Livingstone work shifts for this service, along with other local doctors.
  • If you need urgent medical attention, you will be asked to come and see the emergency doctor at Stamford Hospital.
  • If you are too ill to travel, a doctor will come and visit you at home.
  • If you need telephone advice about an urgent matter, the doctor on duty will be able to help you on the telephone.

This emergency service is not able to provide routine health care or advice. For routine and non urgent medical care, you must arrange to see your own GP during normal surgery times.
