Room Before
This page shows how the
room looked before we had the projector and screen. A chair was
where the screen is now, and a three-seater sofa was in front of
the window with another chair alongside. The 36 inch widescreen
TV was on a Soundstyle AV stand in the corner by the stairs. The
centre speaker and ONdigital box were on the top shelf of the
stand with the rest of the equipment placed on the bottom shelf.
This consisted of a Sky digital box, Toshiba V857B VCR, Yamaha
DSP-A592 amplifier and Sony DVP-S505D DVD player. The DVD player
and amplifier were linked together with a 6 channel phono lead in
order to obtain Dolby Digital sound. Finally, the two front
speakers were placed either side of the TV.
As you can see, the two
rear speakers were placed at each end of the 'L-shaped' viewing
position. Although not ideal, it did ensure that everyone seated
heard a reasonably good surround effect. Of course, with the
seating directly opposite the screen as it is now the rear
speakers can be placed behind the viewers. The subwoofer was
positioned between the sofa and the chair nearest the TV. It was
found that this position gave the desired effect.
