Equipment
From the top working down, here is a
list of the equipment on the equipment stand:
The stand itself is a six-shelf Apollo unit, with suitable gaps between the shelves.
The speakers are all Acoustic Energy, and consist of 2 x AE109 (front), 1 x AE107C (centre) and 2 x AE100i (rear). The subwoofer is the Aegis model. Other equipment includes a Marantz RC5000 universal remote control, a remote extender and an RGB to S-Video converter. The Marantz is used to control all the equipment and has macros to switch everything on or off and to watch a DVD. This has been programmed using the supplied software, and you can download my CCF file here. The remote extender and RGB to S-Video converter are both from Keene Electronics, and are used to relay remote commands to the equipment behind the sofa and convert the RGB signal from the Sky digital box to S-Video respectively.
As for how this all connects together, it may look a mess behind there but it does all work! Firstly the DVD player is connected directly to the projector using a component video lead. This also allows us to take advantage of the progressive scan feature of the DVD player. A digital coaxial connection is used to pipe Dolby Digital and DTS to the receiver. Everything else is connected to the receiver via S-Video leads and then a single S-Video lead goes from the receiver to the S-Video input on the projector. A composite to S-Video adaptor (also from Keene) was required for the ONdigital box as this does not output S-Video, and it was felt that another RGB to S-Video converter would be unnecessary. Audio is carried via stereo phono connections, except for the PlayStation 2 which has a digital optical connection.
