Nick:What is it like to be the voice of a new-born baby?
Tara: It's very funny most of the
time, because most of Dil's lines are written as direction,as in Grandpa Lou throws Dil up
into the air several times-Dil laughs and then vomits. So I sit in the recording booth and
envision what a baby would sound like doing that. The director and I wind up laughing a
lot.
Nick:How did you prepare for the role of Dil?
Tara: I didn't do any special preparation
for Dil.but I always listen closely to little kids' voices and record the cutest ones in
my brain.
Nick:Did you do all Dil's crying too?
Tara: Yes.In the beginning, the producers were planning to use recordings
of a real crying baby for the crying parts. But one day I showed them how I could cry,and
they stopped in the middle of recording and said:"Whoa-that was too real. One of the
writers is really sad."So in the end,I did all of Dil's crying too.
Nick:Did Dil's selfishness surprise you at all?
Tara: No,I think it's funny. The animation is so cute that you can't hate
Dil,no matter what he does.
