"But daddy...." protested Angelica Pickles as her father, Drew, led her up the front walk of his brother's house.

Drew was a clean-cut investment banker who adored his daughter and disapproved of his younger brother, Stu's lifestyle.

"Now, sweetheart, you know daddy has to put some extra time in at the office today unless mommy will get mad at our monthly turnover again"

"But...." Angelica tried to get her dad to back out but he never seemed to listen. 'Great' Angelica thought to herself 'Another boring afternoon with the babies'.

As Didi, Stu's wife, opened the front door and welcomed Angelica inside she heard their brand new baby, Dil, begin to wail. "This is all we need Cynthia, we'll never get anything done this afternoon with that baby squawking" Angelica said to her doll. Didi quickly disappeared to see to baby Dil, leaving Angelica standing in the hallway. "With that new baby around, there's no way anyone's gonna take any notice of ME" she whined.

"Hi Angelica" Tommy muttered as he and his bestest friend Chuckie Finster wandered into the room. "Oh great, that's all I need, the diaper patrol". Tommy Pickles was Angelica's younger cousin, who was into adventures and that kind of 'baby' stuff. Angelica loved her little cousin, not because he was cute and adorable but because she could always count on him to fall for her scams.

"Hi babies" Angelica said cheerfully. "Whatchadoing?"

"Oh nothing really" replied Tommy "Every time me and Chuckie tries to go on a 'ventre my mommy catches us"

Tommy wasn't taking this being a big brother thing too easily. Dil was way too noisy and every time he even attempted to get out of the playpen his baby brother would scream. Tommy knew Dil wasn't doing it on purpose, he was just a baby, he didn't know any better. Still, Tommy wished he could teach Dil not to squeal on him.

"Life with Dil, wasn't quite what you imagined, huh, Tommy?" questioned Chuckie. "Nope, I guess I thinked he would be like one of us and that he'd be loadsa fun but all he does is cry and poop"

"Well, that's what BABIES do," said Angelica who was getting tired of listening to them complaining. "Besides" she continued "if you wanna get rid of Dil why don't you just make your mommy and daddy see what a nasty baby he is"

Tommy and Chuckie glanced at each other with a questioning look on their faces. "Well, that doesn't seem very NICE Angelica"

"Yeah" put in Tommy "Dil may be annoying but we don't have to be so MEAN to him and a'sides my mommy and dady LOVE Dil and they wanna keep him"

Tommy paused and then smiled. It was the kind of smile Chuckie dreaded, the one Tommy always did when he was getting an idea, one that was bound to get the Rugrats into trouble. The came those famous words. "Hey Chuckie, I gotta idea"

Meanwhile Angelica had sneaked of into the kitchen; she had the scent of cookies and was hot on their trail. She came to a stop when she saw her aunt Didi sitting at the table feeding this slushy orange mush to her smallest cousin. "Yeeeeeewwwwww" Angelica thought to herself, at least her cookies looked and smelled a lot nicer than what Dil was eating. Didi got up from the table, preoccupied with the baby who was covered in goo. As Didi passed she almost walked into Angelica. "Oh, I'm sorry dear" she said to her niece who scowled and then left.

Later that afternoon Didi popped Dil into his bouncy chair. "Tommykins, you play nicely with you little brother, I'll be back soon sweeties" she said as she walked into the kitchen to find her Lipshitz book on baby rearing.

"Hey Dilly" Tommy welcomed as he approached the bouncy chair. WHACK. Dil smacked his rattle down onto Tommy's head and then giggled with joy. "Owwww, you'd think that baby store would teach 'em some manners a'fore they let a fambly take 'em home" Tommy grumbled.

"Ok Chuckie, I'm out" continued Tommy "You try"

"Hi Dil" Chuckie said keeping his distance.

"Aww you dumb baby, he's not gonna hurt you" interrupted Angelica

"Ackie" squealed Baby Dil as he saw Angelica "Ackie Ackie Ackie...." Dil repeated her name over and over.

"Wow, Angelica, Dil really likes you," said Chuckie. Tommy stood up and thought for a moment.

"Say Angelica, do you think you could help us," he asked as nicely as he could manage.

"That depends, what's in it for me?" she replied cautiously.

Angelica sat down next to Dil's bouncy chair; she gave him Tommy's reptar doll. She figured seeing as Tommy and his geeky red headed friend were off doing errands and fetching cookies for her that Tommy wouldn't mind her 'borrowing' his Reptar. Dil looked at the green shiny toy in awe and then put Tommy's favouritist Reptar doll in his mouth. "No Dil" Angelica said in her most grown-up voice "That's not how we play with toys"

Angelica took back the Reptar toy, as she did so Dil's grubby little fist reached out and grabbed it back. "Mine" Dil insisted. "Mine what?" said Angelica. She was trying to get Dil to be polite; it's the only way this baby would learn to get whatever he wanted. Angelica hated being polite to grown-ups but she had learned that if she acted sweet and innocent she could have them eating out of her hand. Tommy thought his big cousin was teaching his baby brother a few manners and, while Angelica had to teach him at least how to say 'Please', she was concentrating more on teaching Dil how to be exactly like HER.

Dil wasn't in the mood for compromise. "Mine" he kept insisting "My repar".

This was getting her nowhere. Angelica tried the direct approach. She handed herself a teddy bear. "See Dil, You have to say 'Thank you Angelica, you are the bestest and most prettiest girl in the whole wild world', now you try" She handed the bear to Dil whose eyes lit up. "Ahhhh, my tebby"

"NO YOU DUMB BABY" screamed Angelica just as Didi walked into the room to check on Dil. "Angelica Pickles" she shouted, "What do you think you're doing young lady?"

"I was, er, um, teaching Dil how to say Please and Thank you" Angelica said hastily trying to get herself out of trouble. "That's no reason to shout at him Angelica,he's just a baby, you should know he can't talk yet. You can sit in the kitchen with me young lady, until your daddy comes to fetch you"

Later in the afternoon, Tommy and Angelica were in the kitchen with Didi. She brought a big tray full of delicious chocolate chip cookies down from on top of the counter. "You've all been so good today" Didi said eyeing Angelica who turned away so that she could avoid her aunts glare. "I think we deserve a cookie, don't you?" Didi asked.

She handed Angelica a cookie; Angelica grabbed it and started to munch away. "So much for Angelica's good manners" Tommy thought to himself while smiling at his mom "Now Dil'll never learn". Sighing to herself Didi turned and handed Tommy three more cookies. "Take these for Chuckie and Dil, sweetie, there's a special one for you there too" she said with a wink. Tommy gave his mom a BIG smile as she reached down to kiss him. He reached for the cookies and then toddled off to the playpen where he handed Chuckie a cookie. "Thank you Tommy, I sure do love your mommy's cookies, when my daddy makes 'em they always turn out all black" Tommy smiled at his friend, his mommy was a good cook and he was proud that his bestest friend liked her so much.

"Here you go Dilly" Tommy said cheerfully to his brother as he handed him a cookie. Dil grabbed the cookie and then he stopped just before he put it into his mouth.

He remembered what Chuckie had said when Tommy gave him a cookie. That seemed so hard, the sentence was just so long. Dil tried the say as best he could the only part of the sentence he could remember. "'Ank ooo Tomby" he cooed. Dil really did love his big brother, probably more than anyone in the world, apart from their mommy and daddy and maybe Grandpa Lou, but he still didn't want his brother to stop playing with him. They had so much fun; after all, Tommy was always willing to play with him even if HE didn't know it!
