Early Progress and Development
| Much of the early
development of Hartwood was due to the dedication and skill of medical
superintendent - Dr. Archibald Campbell Clark. His progressive approach towards the treatment of patients and the training of staff was to earn him considerable acclaim. |

Dr Clark was born in Lochgilphead in 1852. He was educated at the local parish school, but, due to his father's early death, he did not have secondary education |
