ADAPTATIONS AND ALTERATIONS
If you need to adapt your home, you can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant. This grant is means-tested which means your income and savings are taken into account when calculating the amount of money that you will get.

Promotes the development of accessible built environments.

CENTRES FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING
These are purpose-built bungalows with a wide range of equipment for people to try out. They exist to help assess the needs of people with disabilities in a home-like setting. The service is free, but an appointment is necessary.
The centres also act as a focus for information for people with disabilities.

DOMESTIC & PERSONAL CARE
Services are available to enable people to stay in their homes by helping with tasks such as washing, dressing, food preparation, housework etc. These can be provided through Social Services. Depending on your circumstances there may be a charge. Services can be purchased directly from independent providers. Contact
Social Services or your local Disability Advice Service. Age Concern also provide a home help service.

EQUIPMENT
There is a large range of equipment available to help you be as independent as possible. Social Services staff, including Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Officers for visually impaired people, are available for advice. Items may be loaned to you by Social Services following an assessment.

Social Services. Items can also be purchased from specialist suppliers. For details contact your local Disability Advice Service. The British Red Cross Society can supply equipment for daily living including short term loan of wheelchairs, bath seats, bed blocks etc.

MEALS SERVICE
If you have difficulty preparing your own food, you may be entitled to meals from Social Services. For information contact

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational Therapists will be able to advise you on ways in which day to day living may be improved. For further details contact Social Services.
