Is there anyone out there who didn’t fall in love with Jude when they watched this show? To describe Sean’s performance in the role as spectacular would be something of an understatement, that’s for sure! I’d been watching Sunset for over two years by the time Sean made his first appearance and it would be true to say that I was perhaps getting a little bored with the show. Many of the storylines seemed to be going nowhere and I found myself, on occasion, fast-forwarding through some sequences. The only plot which I really enjoyed was that involving Annie, Gregory and the rest of the Richards family. It’s funny, because I always thought that Annie and Gregory made a great couple - until Jude came along, that is. Sean interacted brilliantly with all the characters but with Sarah Buxton there was definitely something special. The word “chemistry” springs to mind but whatever it was it worked splendidly and Annie (always my favourite female character) and Jude swiftly became my all-time favourite couple. Which other couple on the show had that wonderful “spark?” It must have been very satisfying for Sean to play Jude because the character was not only exciting but also multi-faceted. It was fascinating to watch Jude metamorphose from the glamorous managing director of the Liberty Corporation into what appeared to be Gregory’s paid henchman. And then, towards the end of the show, we saw Jude as his true self. I for one will never forget the scene when he introduced himself to a dumbstruck Annie as “Special Agent Jude Cavanaugh, FBI, at your service!” For me that was one of the most memorable moments of the entire series. It was a great pity that Sunset Beach ended when it did, for who knows what else we may have learned of this fascinating character? Sean made an immediate impact when he joined the cast of the show and continued to make an impact for the remainder of its all-too-brief existence. He deserves to be warmly congratulated for his splendid performance in the role and for bringing life to a character who played a pivotal part in the lives of both Annie and Gregory. |
