| The
one main problem I have with the Sony Clies (apart from the awful flip
cover on the N770CU) is the fact that it is very difficult to buy
accessories in the UK from a high street store- I have looked everywhere
for a slim case which I could use at home to protect the screen without
success. Yes, I can buy via the Internet but the prices being quoted are a bit steep to say the least. So, I thought I would make my own and it was surprisingly easy to come up with something that is not only praticle but looks good as well. |
|
Materials
used: Old Filofax, Super Glue, Scissors Time Taken: 25 minutes Previous experience: none! First of all I took an old A5 FiloFax that I gave up using when I got my first Psion and cut as big a piece of leather as I possibly could (if you can cut a piece and keep the stitching on the edges that helps to give your finished case a more professional look). |

|
|
Now, this is the
difficult bit and to be honest it all fell into place rather easily.
Take the large piece of leather you have cut out and wrap it around the
Clie from side to side- you then need to cut the leather so that it is
aligned with the right hand side of the Clie. It helps if you can align any stiching on the leather with the front right hand side of the Clie- makes it look better (see pictures). Better still- if you can keep the catching mechanism on the Filofax this will give you a ready made secure fitment for your case. |
|
||
| Make sure you have left some leather over at the top and bottom when you cut the sides- try also to keep the catcher in the centre right. |
|
Now all you have to do is cut the leather (at the back only) that overlaps from the bottom and top of your case and tuck the overlapping front pieces underneath (2 cm is enough). | ||
| You may
have to cut the corners slightly of the flaps going underneath but this
will help to ensure a cleaner fit and a flatter case. Superglue the
flaps to the back lining (I used the Clie as a guide by wrapping the
leather around it- be very careful though!) and then all you need to do
is glue the catcher eye to the back of the case so that it lines up
nicely with the catcher on the front. Finally, you can also do what I
did and remove the Clie logo from your flip cover and attach it to this
one. I was surprised by how strong the case is- if you can use a sewing machine (I can't!) this would make the case look even better and probably increase it's strength. Now, all I have to do is make a flip cover and find a way to attach it to the Clie. |
