Competition Winner 25/02/2002 Congratulations to Eric So and Gabe Garwick who are joint winners of the 'news' competition for the past week- designsbybert.com offered me one copy of their deluxe icon set for Action Names and one for Datebook- if both winners want the same one I will purchase the second one and use the spare for next weeks competition whcih will be added to another free program- details will be announced tomorrow. Any entry received on or after 23/02/2002 will be accepted for the next competition. Thanks to everyone who has sent news in- it's really helped the content of the site over the past week and is much appreciated. By the way- the Action Names version of the deluxe icon set has been updated to version 1.475- here's a quote from the developer-"We added 62 Icons that makes it a total of 475 Icons in the Set and we are still not done yet. Our focus is at least 500 or 600 icons in ActionNames IconSet Deluxe."

It's here!!! 25/02/2002 palmist500 has posted this item on the forum (this is the kind of competition entry I like)- "Today. Midday. Micro Anvika. Tottenham Court Road. London. Played around with t625 for about 15 mins. Form factor o.k., but Palm m505 still has the edge. The stupid addition of a lanyard(?) at top left does not help. Whatever for? Who is going to use it? It just sticks out akwardly. Screen very crisp, and display of fonts very impressive. However, I did notice a u-shaped noticably dark area about 6mm wide, it being the worst on the right hand side, and least bad on the left. I would have returned that particular sample ("Made in Japan") had I bought it. Let's hope it was a dud. And if so, it should never have gotten past quality control. And if it wasn't a dud... 23/02/2002 I downloaded a game called Xwap earlier today which kept me busy for over an hour on my first play- it's not hi-res but it's incredibly addictive and is worthy competition for Bejeweled. Available here for only $7.15.

23/02/2002 iSiloX has been updated to version 3.1 with the following new features- "adds table, background color, text color, and margin processing options". It's freeware and available here. And it's an excellent tool for getting complete web pages on your Clie.

23/02/2002 Here's a cracking game I've been meaning to mention for a while- it's called Geki-Buggy and is a very original overhead racing game. You have to drive a sand buggy over jumps, avoiding missles and falling rocks in as fast a time as possible. With some updating this could become a classic. It's $5.00 from PalmGear.

22/02/2002 Would you be interested in a Monthly Magazine dedicated purely to the Clie range of PDAs? It could be delivered in a variety of formats- PeanutPress, Palm Doc, iSilo etc. etc. (or even paper) and would include the following:- Software and Hardware reviews, readers letters, UK and International news - the list goes on and on. Post your opinions on the New Uk Forum and I will try to get this moving. The picture above is just a 'quick' mock-up by the way (not the finished article). Would also be interested to know if you would pay for such a magazine and what would be a fair price?

22/02/2002 Thanks to Larry Miller for directing me to TreasureWays where you can download a free set of icons for Action Names from Japan. When you visit the site it may be worth following Larry's other tip and use the translation tool at Bablefish for translating the Japanese into English- remember though that it can produce some strange results- here's an example from Larry- "Freeware: The outcrossing cloth condition of reprinting the attachment document must be reference."

22/02/2002 Edmund Hazlewood has sent in the following information- would you like a 128mb Memory Stick for £46.30? "£46.30 per 128Mo Memory stick!!!! Really quality service if you know someone in the states that can send them on. My whole order took 3 weeks in all; two weeks or Dealcat to process and deliver my order and just a week for people concerned in the states to send on sticks to me. 22/02/2002 Reggie Suplido has sent in 2 useful links from ClieSource- Workaround to play MP3s in the background on a T6xx: and $59 16MB Upgrade for the N7xx. "dach95 has figured out a workaround to play MP3s on the background in a T615, usng the Sony Audio Adapter. He has figured out that replacing the original Sony AudioPlayer app that comes with the T615 with version 2.01 from the N760 install CD will allow background playing. There is a trick to installing the app though. Please refer to the original link for details."Ben Chi of Boston, USA has announced that he can upgrade the N760 to 16MB of RAM for $59. This is in comparison to PalmPilotUpgrade.com's same service at $139. For deatils see original link."

22/02/2002 Not sure whether to get the T625 when it reaches the UK? Eric So has sent in details of an VERY extensive review of the T615 "This is the most extensive hardware review I have found on the T615C. It has 7 pages with detailed pictures and comparison with N760C."

21/02/2002 Here's a flip cover tip from Richard LeBlanc- "I had the same problem with my flip cover on my 610. However, I have not had it come off for over 1 month now with the following modification: I cut two narrow strips of double stick tape (3m white foam double stick tape) and put them between the prongs that hold the cover on. The tape is very good and will not damage the Clie like glue could." Also, if you desperately want to replace your current flip cover take a look at SonyStyle Canada.

20/02/2002 If you are getting too many pop up boxes appearing when using the Clie World Forum visit ShiftHead Software and download PopUp Stopper- it's free and works well- will definately save me a lot of time when scouring the web. Thanks to Gabe for the information.

20/02/2002 Palmist500 has posted a link to this news article on PalmInfoCentre concerning AvantGo restricting their Custom Channels- this may have an impact on the mobile edition of Clie World (see left panel) as there is a cost of between $1,000 and $6,000 for channels with up to 1,000 subscribers. Personally I would be happy to pay a yearly subscription to AvantGo as it is an excellent service which I use everyday- if you have a different opinion post your thoughts on the Fourm.

20/02/2002 Here's a competition entry from Joel Suplido- it's completely Clie unrelated but who cares when the possible next Apple iPod looks this good. It's a rumour at this stage but here are some details about the Apple iPod2- "The iPod 2 will ship in March, sporting 20, 30, and 40 GB drives. Each model will feature a more powerful interface for creating playlists on the go, but no, I repeat no PDA-like features. (Save the larger backlit touchscreen)." 20/02/2002 This email received from Joel Suplido re the cigarette lighter stylus fix (could be useful)- "Hi Shaun, Thanks for putting that tip by Cedric Lim. Anyway, in my case, I put that small o-ring around the groove near the stylus tip. I found that if I put the o-ring where it was suggested, it slipped out a couple of times. Thanks again. Fireball"
