HiResFontMapper

People have loved the high-resolution (320 by 320) screens of Sony clie. More pixels make the screen sharp, clear, and easy on eyes. Few applications, now, even take advantage of the high-resolution, but only few. There are many applications out there that do not support the high-resolution yet. People have been dying to see those applications in high-resolution. Until the applications support high-resolution natively, there is a temporary solution to it! And, the solution is: HiResFontMapper! The program by H. Imazeki works wonderfully!

Other hi-res assist programs, example: SwitchDash or PowerHiRes, only changes the text to high resolution, meaning, the text looks smooth, but that's about it. These programs don't make more text fit on the screen. The ratio of font size to screen is the same, only the font looks smoother. But, on the other hand, HiResFontMapper, changes the whole thing to high-resolution taking advantage of every single pixels. This way, you can fit more text on the screen.

See, how on the second screenshot, there are more items on the list! Plus, the screen looks clearer, compared to the first one!

You can really see a big difference on the second set of screenshots. You can see a lot more text on one screen.

While, HiResFontMapper increases the resolution for texts, it does not do so for graphics. It would have been better if it did. Because it only works on texts, applications that uses a lot of graphics and texts on the same screen look really bad when HiResFontMapper is applied to it! So, in other words, this program is only handy when using text-extensive applications!

Another con of HiResFontMapper is that it tends to slow down the application a little bit. This is not noticeable on some applications, but there are a few which slows down a lot. One example: AvantGo! When you apply HiResFontMapper to AvantGo and run AvantGo, you'll really notice the slowdown. If you scroll, each line is drawn, text by text! No Afterburner or FastCPU can fix this. It may have few cons, but, it is really handy and works wonderfully for some applications.
