Interview with Punk- owner of a
new Pocket PC (find out why he sold the Clie) |
||
| How many
PDA's have you owned and what do you use at the moment (why)? |
||
| I began using PDAs just
for fun. I started out with Palm IIIxe because back then it was one
awesome PalmOS PDA. Then I found a very good deal on Casio EM-500, and I
was also wanting to have a PPC device for long time, so, I sold my IIIxe
and bought a EM-500. I was very happy with EM-500 and all the familiar
Windows-like features it had. Then, I saw Sony Clie n760c, which I just
couldn't resist. It had a great display, and having so many pixels in
such a little area made the display on 760 really sharp and clear.
Dell.com had one of their 25% off sale going on, so, I bought 760 and
sold my EM-500. Then, CompUSA had a great deal on Audiovox Maestro
(Pocket PC 2002), and I just couldn't resist one more time. So, I sold
my 760, and now, I currently have Audiovox Maestro. |
||
| Why did
you move from your Clie to the Pocket PC? |
||
| There are only two
reasons why I made my move from Clie to Pocket PC: First, and more
obvious, I got a great deal on Audiovox Maestro (only $299.99). Second,
I had been missing Pocket Internet Explorer, and all the other
Windows-like goodies of Pocket PC since I sold EM-500! I work with html,
txt and doc files a lot at my work place, so, having IE, Notepad and
Word was crucial to me. Of course, Palm platforms also have what I need,
but, they require conduits, and I didn't want to deal with them anymore.
|
||
| What are
the advantages and disadvantages of owning a Pocket PC compared to a
Clie (in your opinion)? |
||
| Well, the first and
major disadvantage of owning a PPC compared to a Clie is the overall
size and form factor. Clies are much smaller and fit comfortably on
hand. PPCs are big and not so comfortable on hand. Other disadvantage
would be number of freeware. Being a college student, "free"
is my first priority. PalmOS hs a lot of good freeware, while PPCs have
only few. Yet another disadvantage would be simplicity! PPC software are
more advanced and can handle more beating, but, they are not as easy to
learn as PalmOS software. Now for the advantages: The major advantage
would be "no more conduits." You can drop almost any type of
file and PPC can handle it without the need for conversion (doc, txt,
xls, jpg, gif, bmp, zip, mp3, wma, wav, html, and so on.....). It's not
that PalmOS can't do the same, but, simply, the softwares don't yet
exist. Sure PalmOS can open html, but there aren't any html viewer to
open it. That should soon change when Palm comes out with browser and
when OS5 or 6 comes out. PalmOS will get there soon! |
||
| Are you
glad you changed PDA's (why?) |
||
| Technology advances as
we speak. Old gadgets are replaced by better ones. The advancement is
for us, consumers. So, if the advancement is for us, why not
accept/utilize it. By changing PDAs, I'm simply keeping up with
Technological advancements. The only thing that keeps us from keeping up
with those advancements is $$$. Given that, I have, and will, change
PDAs only when the newer ones have something I couldn't do with the
current one, and when I have enough $$$. And to answer your original
question, YES, I'm glad I changed PDAs. |
||
| What's
your favourite song of all time (and music artist)? |
||
| Well, my favorite song
has to be Aerosmith's "I don't wanna miss a thing..."
'cause I just can never get tired of listening to it. The song has good
theme to it. Some of the other songs I like are: P. Diddy's remix of "I'll
be missing you...", Uncle Kracker's "Follow me...",
and Madonna's "Power of Goodbye..." |
||
| What do
you use your PDA for? |
||
| I use my PDA mainly for
organizing my class schedules (test, homework due dates, quizzes, etc.),
meeting with professors, work schedule, games, songs, and carrying
pictures. Oh, did I mention games yet? |
||
| Why are
you called Punk and where are you based? |
||
| I'm from Oklahoma, USA.
This place is awesome. The only complaint I have about this area is the
weather. You never know what tomorrow brings. It could be super-hot
today, and it may snow tomorrow or something. The weather is
unpredictable here. And for your other question, I call myself punk
simply because I like the world "punk." Everyone has creative
handles for message boards and chat sites, so, this is my creative name.
Plus, I use the word "punk" a lot when I talk to my friends.

| Favourite
PDA and non-PDA web site? |
||
| My favorite PDA
sites: http://www.clieworld.co.uk/ (Of course http://www.pdabuzz.com/ http://www.brighthand.com/ http://www.ppc4all.com/ http://www.pocketgear.com/ http://www.freewarepalm.com/ http://www.palmgear.com/ My favorite non-PDA sites: http://www.cnn.com/ http://www.espn.com/ http://www.cnnsi.com/ |
||
| American
opinion of the British? |
||
| I think that the British
are great. They are very polite and very courteous. They have been very
helpful to us. Thank you! Very diplomatic- we must have some faults! |
||
| Anything
you would like to add? |
||
| I would like to say that
Clieworld has been a great website. When I had 760, Clieworld always had
something new for Clie series. It still has interesting news about Clie
series. Shaun, you've done a great job for Clie community! Thank you!
The $50 and four bottles of beer on the way
to you as agreed |
||
| Thanks Punk- much appreciated! | ||
