Although they are not included in these indices, also shown are names and addresses of contacts in the country of origin and also details of costs of voyages. Voyage and other costs were prepaid by NZ Government, but were required to be repaid within 24 months of arrival in Auckland Province - hence the reason a "Surety" to each bond was required in case these charges were not repaid. Each emigrant 18 years and over was entitled to 40 acres of land, and children were entitled to 10 acres. Not all emigrants took up land, however.
