The Surgery was founded in 1921 and operates out of a purpose built building. It has expanded to nine surgeons and is continuing to grow. The practice is divided into two sections: large animal / equine, and companion animal. This enables us to ensure you get the best possible service. |

Peter Edmondson provides mastitis and milk quality consultancy and other specialist services to clients of the surgery, other practices, pharmaceutical and agri-companies. Expert advise, legal work and reports are prepared for farmers or agri-companies when in dispute. Expert advice on troubleshooting and preventing clinical and subclinical mastitis, dealing with pathogens such as Staph aureus, Strep uberis and E coli, selecting dry cow therapy and testing the milking machine. |

Cattle, DAISY and Farm Animal Department |
The farm animal department offers a comprehensive clinical and well developed herd health approach which is aimed at improving animal welfare and maximizing farm profitability. The practice services 150 dairy units with 20,000 milking cows. In specific our dairy clients can get advice on issues of calf pneumonia, calf scour, cow abortion, digital dermatitis and other diseases of the bovine claw, foot trimming, mastitis, husk, infertility. Ministry work is also carried out. The large animal department has six surgeons. The practice operates the DAISY herd recording system . The performance of 40 dairy farms are monitored by our Daisy Bureau at present. |

Small animal clients are offered full clinical, surgical and laboratory services supported by a caring and professional staff working in purpose built small animal facilities . The small animal side is an approved RCVS Training Centre. Meet the companion animal team. |

Training and other CPD |
The practice provides specialist training courses and other CPD to surgeons, agricultural and pharmaceutical companies in the UK and overseas. In specific we are involved with the mastitis seminar and lameness seminar, which take place twice yearly. The mastitis seminar deals with preventing and troubleshooting high cell count, bactoscan problems, Staph aureus infections, mastitis due to Strep uberis, subclinical mastitis, selection of dry cow therapy, milking routines, testing the milking plant, post and pre milking disinfection. The lameness seminar deals with the anatomy and diseases of the claw, surgery of the bovine digit, understanding and preventing lameness, tackling specific diseases such as digital dermatitis, solar ulcers and laminitis. |
