CHAIRMAN`S REPORT.

Dear affiliated clubs and members, I would like to think that a new Millennium will see greater involvement of the many clubs and anglers in the Division. So few bother even to read the minutes from Divisional meetings and even less attend. Apathy is rife at present and its only when something goes wrong or when there is controversy that we hear from clubs. So here I would ask that your club send a delegate to meetings, supports the Knockout Pairs, Kent League and the events arranged throughout the year. Don`t grumble from afar, get involved in YOUR Division. If you have some good ideas or want changes, come to the meetings and say so.

Fortunately we do have a hard core of staunch Divisional officers and delegates and as Chairman I would like to thank them all for their continued effort and support. In particular Secretary Joyce Rogers who is at present convalescing at home after a major operation - Get well soon Joyce.

The good things that have happened this year include the start of a new Kent League which is allied to the Angling Times and Sponsored by Ultima - Kent will again be represented by a team or teams at National level. Many clubs do not support the league because they feel they cannot compete against the top names, but the more teams that enter the more will qualify for the national final. Just a couple more teams for the 2000 event and three or even four will qualify. It's a similar picture with the Knockout, all anglers are beatable, but not if you don`t enter. There is also a lot to be learnt from fishing against the best.

Meetings with English Nature about access to Dungeness are proving fruitful and the access road to the Point is available at weekends to clubs who book in advance - Contact the Divisional Secretary for details.

Congratulations to those involved in the International competitions both men, ladies, boat and shore. Congratulations too to those who have qualified for the National Penn League Final. They are Dave Andrews, Steve Allmark, Calvin Robinson, Mick Davies and Richard Eyles.

The fixture meeting held in November again proved a success with major fixtures avoiding clashes. Clubs who have not yet arranged their main event are asked to consult the list and the Hon. Secretary (Tel 01304 372991) before fixing dates.

The net is widening, well done Dover S.A.A. on setting up their own club website. Contact them on www.dover-sea-angling.com

Hopefully the Division and more clubs will join the Internet soon.

Club and competition anglers will be pleased to hear that the NFSA`s match committee have recommended that the Dab minimum size is reduced to 20cms (8 inches) in line with the new MAFF size list. Clubs within the S.E.Division can now set any limit they wish for Dabs because the species has been totally removed from the list.

Finally The Division is taking the lead in the NFSA`s policy to promote catch and release competitions with Deal 1919 AC to be congratulated on their rapid arrangement of measure and return for their pier series. A similar event run by the Division is set for 27th April at Seabrook fishing 3pm until 8pm. Details etc. Tel. 01303 278877

Tight lines, see you on the beach.
