The NFSA AGM held on 19th May 2001 has given the Officers, Divisions, Clubs and anglers a big boost towards achieving the aims that they have always sought. At the well supported AGM entertaining and rousing speeches given Chairman Michael North, Development Officer David Rowe and conservation expert Malcolm Gilbert paved the way for the crucial voting on future funding of the work that is carried out by the NFSA. Voting in the room at the AGM showed overwhelming support for the Individual Membership proposal, but as is usual at this event, much depended on the voting of the proxy voters. The air was tense and the gathered members were biting their nails as the votes where totalled......which way would the voting go....David Rowe had told members that they had the best return of votes for many years......the room silence as David Rowe arose from his chair with a dead pan ashen face.....had the vote gone against the committee's wishes or was he just tired from the very early morning start.....then he announced the result on the proposition for the Individual Membership Scheme.......votes for 1244 ....votes against...544....the proposition had achieved the 2/3rds majority required and was carried!!! People around the room looked and smiled at each other...they knew that had just seen a little bit of history in the making..... .....the dawning of a new era for the National Federation of Sea Anglers. You could sense it, you had to be there to enjoy it............I hope to see you at the AGM next year for you to enjoy it as well. The other two important proposals before the AGM with regard to the Federation's policy towards Child Protection and Equity were also passed. |
