Where is Albania on
the Map?
Albania is located in the western part of the Balkan peninsula.
It borders the former Yugoslavia (Serbia - Montenegro) and
Kosova in the
north and the east, (FYR of)
Macedonia in the east,
and Greece in the south. It has access to the Adriatic and Ionian
Seas in the west. From the Strait of Otranto, Albania is less than
100 km (60 miles) from Italy. The country covers a total of 28,000
squared kilometers (11,000 squared miles) and its population is
3.3 million.

Cinematography |
The cinematography is developed
after 1945 in Albania, while as the first film show is that
of the painter Kol Idromenos in 1912. The oldest movie
treating Albanian theme is produced by the foreigners. It is
entitled "Albania ribelle" and it is produced by Italian
company "Cines" of Torino in 1909. The first Albanian
cinematographic enterprise is set up in 1946. During the
period 1970-1990 Albanian cinematographic production had some
14 artistic movies, 40 documentary films and chronicles, 16
cartoons of different techniques. After 1990 Albanian movie
production fell considerably.
"Tana" is the first Albanian full length film. It is
production of Film Studio "Shqiperia e Re (New Albania)" in
1958. The subject of the film is related with social life in
village and it is based upon the novel written by Fatmir
Gjata. Its director is Kristaq Dhamo.
"Qeshim se nuk qajme dot" (We laugh for we can not cry) is
thefirst short length film. Its producers are Viktor
Stratodha and Dionis Bubani. It is shown after 43 years in
1999, because thedirector Stratodha is persecuted by
communist regime. ViktorStratodha was born in Korce in
1925."Beni ecen vete " (Ben walks on his own) is the first
artistic film for kids. It is produced in 1975 and its
director is Xhanfise Keko(People's Artist). It won the
special price of the festival in Salermo, Italy, in 1979.
"Zana and Miri" is the first cartoon produced in 1975.Later
onthe cartoon production technics is combined with real
objects.
Kadri Roshi (Artist of People). He was born in January 4,
1924 in Mallakaster. He is graduated in Prague in 1941.
Since this year he played in 170 roles, which mark a great
artistic life, where the life difficulties of the orphan,
apprentice, cinema porter and original actor with the
portrait of gentle man are presented. He is considered as
the legend of Albanian scene and screen.
Aleksander Moisiu (Artist of People).He was born in 1879. He
came of Albanian family of Moisiu, which for economic
reasons moved to Trieste. After the finishing of high school
in Graz, Austria andafter an interruption of Vienna
Conservative, Moisiu, forced bythe economic situation, was
obliged to work as applauder in opera and walk-on in
Burg theater, where he started his theatricalcreation.He
marked a great success in German Theater in Praguein 1930,
in the theater "People Scene", Berlini one, etc. Moisiuis
estimated as actor in roles of Oswald, Pozs, Hamlet, while
the role of Fedja in "Alive Corpse" of Leon Tolstoy is
interpreted by him 1200 times. Only three year before his
death in 1935 Moisiutriumphed in Europe scenes with the show
"Faust" of Goethe.
