JUSTIN'S ROCK REVIEWS W/C 28/10/02

FROST / CURSED AGAIN

The band include a member from Anaal Nathrakh that I recently raved about to Justin, I wish I bought that on it’s release so I could have done a review of that. I would just like to say it’s a Hateful furious piece of work that does not leave you feeling pole axed rather it leaves you feeling satisfied.

Frost is slower than Anaal darker less hateful and is one of the best True Black Metal releases of recent memory. One for you out there with Black Hearts buy it with Anaal and give these two UK bands a boost.

The Anaal Natharkh CD will be reviewed as it is too good a release not to include it in this site, so watch this space and since when have I cared about rules, this is my site.

CORPORATION 187 / PERFECTION IN PAIN

Remember Thrash, superfast guitar licks and drum beast's, well Corporations 187 have their roots firmly in Thrash and have updated it with some twists of their own and modernised it.

Perfection In Pain is full of melodic great Melodic guitar licks, crisp clean leads a plenty but the sound is still dirty enough for you to want to wash your hands afterwards. The thing that strikes me the most is the drummer, you normally take them for granted but in this case you cant because he is such an integral part of the bands sound it makes the songs impossible to ignore. Normally drummers find a pattern, 2/2, 3/4 and stick to it like glue, especially in Metal, with the occasional fill here and there but not this guy oh no, he is from the Keith Moon school of thought, there is always room for an extra fill. To thunderous effect I might add.

This mastery of the drums lifts songs like "Religious Conviction", "Liquid Truth" and "My Life To Kill" from the ordinary to the realms of YOU HAVE TO TAKE NOTICE OF ME. The vocals are shouted, semi Hardcore similar to say Skinlab and when you hear "Strange Is Strong" you will know what I mean.

This is their 2nd CD and another fine release from Earache, who seem to be going though a bit of a renaissance.
