Practitioners - Amy Youngs
Amy Youngs is also a student at ACCAD (Advanced Computing Center for
the Arts and Design) in Ohio USA.
Her work also focusses on the integration and interaction of technology
and nature.
The piece I have decided to look at is 'Rearming the Spineless Opuntia
'.
This piece involves a breed of cactus that as been bred to remove all
of its protecting spines. The artist has built a protective shell that
opens and closes, in much the same way as a venus fly trap plant, as
people approach the piece.
This is achieved by use of motion detectors and motors which operate
the opening and closing of the protective shell.
