Homeworld Groundbreaking or Over Hyped Tosh? Well if I told you that since buying this game 4 weeks ago that I have spent less and less time drinking beer you will probably realise that it is definitely not the latter. This game is groundbreaking in every sense of the word. Not only does it look astounding but it plays like an absolute dream. Rather than do a huge long winded review though I urge any doubters out there to get hold of the demo or to visit the homeworld website and see for yourself. This game gets the big thumbs up from me and is probably the most innovative game I’ve played in years. British Telecom in Cheap ISP phone charges shocker Recently it was announced that British Telecom would be completely restructuring their ISP call charging. The method of restructuring, though sketchy, seems to be a vast improvement on the metered call method currently preferred by them. From the 15/16th December 1999 BT will sell call time directly to the ISP’s at a greatly reduced rate (under 1p a minute are current estimates) and it will then be up to the ISP to then charge their customer for their calls. This is likely to be via an unmetered charge of between £10 and £25 depending on what sources you use on the Internet. Of course all this is still dependant on OFTEL’s approval of the scheme, but how they can possibly blow it out the water is beyond me. Hopefully in little less than 3 weeks the UK will be enjoying what the rest of the world have taken for granted for years. ISP loses Websites and I aint happy UKOnline recently lost a vast amount of hosted websites due to a ‘serious problem’ with their server. Whether this was due to hardware or software I have no idea, but you would think that an ISP the size of UKOnline would backup the files held on their server for such occasions. Well apparently not as my site and a couple of others that I maintain where obliterated from existence. Luckily I had a large percentage of my site held on my HD but alas I kept the larger files (downloads, screenshots, etc) on the server thinking that they would be safe if my own machine ever up and died. This has certainly woken me up to the necessity to back up everything and I certainly hope it has done likewise to everyone else effected. |
