RS232 Relay Driver Interface

Previous page

serial communications between PC and hardware

The RS232 relay driver interface has 16 open collector outputs capable of driving a variety of relays up to a total of 200mA at 12VDC with its own internal power.

With the addition of 8 latching (set/reset) relays, up to eight items can be controlled - blinds, doors, screens, etc.

A typical application to control blinds and screen motors
The set coils of each relay are connected with set (-) terminals to outputs 1 and 2 respectively and the reset (-) terminals to outputs 4 and 3 respectively. All the (+) terminals are commoned to the common supply output.
When sent ASCII "1" the first relay closes the blinds. When sent ASCII "2" the second relay lowers the screen. When sent ASCII "3" the second relay lifts the screen. When sent ASCII "4" the first relay opens the blinds.

Such an application could be used with programs such as "show-magic". The RS232 relay driver interface is much less expensive than DMX512 relays and Adams units.

The RS232 relay driver interface is packaged in a small ABS box with front panel LED output indicators and quick connect rear terminals.
