For those who want get their hands dirty or just need to provide information to your garage. TT workshop manuals are available but in Japanese only (BUGGER), there has not been an English translation that we know of so most of the info we have is lifted from the V8 range, specifically the UZZ31/SC400 (4.0L V8 with coil spring suspension) and the Mk4 Supra. The 1JZ engine is thought to be bullet-proof even at 450bhp, as yet I have not heard of any blow-ups but replacement turbo's and top end rattle (cam clearance adjustment) when cold is common. I have one of the few auto gearboxes which has failed in service, a costly rebuild proved to be a waste of time & money, eventually a s/hand box was installed which has proved to be perfect - so far. |
| Although some of us talk about how easy it is to do a brake caliper rebuild or whatever, you should bear in mind that working on your car is fraught with danger for the uninitiated, while most owners are capable of doing an oil & filter change only competent motor engineers should work on brakes, suspension, steering or other critical areas. If in doubt DON'T DO IT, consult an expert. | |
