Other Colours and markings

As well as our two main lines (blue-siamese and mink-based) we also have other colours and markings that we keep and breed. These are mainly colours and markings we would like to breed, but do not have the time or space ot breed them as much as we do our main lines. Varieties we have, and are breeding (or considering breeding) are:

• Rex: The rex fur type is one I would rather not get into the main lines, as they are breeding for non-standard colours - so I would like them to be in their colour class, rather than rex. The rex fur type is the only fur type mutant that is standard in the UK. It gives the animal curls all over, by removing most of the guard hairs on the rat. It also curls the whiskers, and is very cute!

• Husky: The husky gene gives a different fur type and colour to any animal expressing the gene. It changes black to a charcoal or Russian blue type silvered colour, and lightens all other colours in the same way. It also usually gives a blaze to the animal. Huskies are quite rare right now in the UK, and non-standard - although they are on their way to standardisation.

  

• Other Markings: We have the potential genes for quite a few markings here - although we will probably not breed most of them. The markings may be useful to breed with huskies to get different husky based markings. We do not breed for a great deal of markings in the mink line, as we are breeding for a non-standard colour, so keeping self markings is better for that. Also, any markings at all are a fault in the siamese line, so that is not bred for at all.

• Other Colours: Some other colours have and will be bred here. As well as blacks and agoutis from the two main lines, these colours are also bred as pretty colours in their own right. Some dilutes are possible from our lines too, including silver fawn, champagne, buff and topaz.

• Binky - black husky buck
• Sodditt - black self rex buck
• Max - agouti hooded doe (carrying Irish, non-agouti, red eye dilute, albino)
• Hawthorn Sam - agouti Berkshire buck (carrying non-agouti, red eye dilute, albino)
• Hawthorn Cadpig - agouti Irish doe
• Hawthorn Mickala - black hooded doe
• Skank - mink capped buck
