'CLASSIC' CARS I HAVE OWNED

GO STRAIGHT TO THE LANCHESTER SAGA INDEX

Playing with cars is not a recent addiction although there was a more serious purpose in the days when the 'Banger' owned was my only car. A car which I couldn't really afford even while it went well, and didn't have the wherewithal to take to a garage for attention whenever something went wrong. Too many things went wrong over the years to remember them all, but 'highlights??' (not all with the same car) included:

 - An oil filter dropping off while chugging along and a Patrolman  putting a cork in the hole in the side of the engine block, assuring us (The Wife and In-Laws were with me) that all would be well, but suggesting that we consider changing vehicles within the next 5000 miles.

 - The windscreen wipers failing and my wife operating them manually for thirty miles.

 - A steering arm sheering - fortunately (although we didn't see it that way at the time) while we were pushing the car, which had recently died, onto a grass verge.

 - Driving in the North West of England at dead of night, in a car which did about 30 miles to the pint of oil, desperately looking for a garage before the engine seized up.

 - Buying a little old car, at an auction for £10, which worked for a while - until the wiring burnt out.

I could go on but this section is supposed to be about the machine acquired in November 1997 and you can click on the various headings if you would like to hear more -
