In a previous existence, (prior to 4th July 1991 when the opportunity for early retirement was taken up at the age of 58) I had spent most of my life working for a Bank; starting in Newcastle upon Tyne at age 20 in 1953, and finishing up at a branch in East London. Since that time my ongoing hobbies/interests have included D.I.Y., Country Music, Gardening, Classic Cars and Reading, but other activities keep creeping in to ensure that I am rarely idle.
	Re-concreting the front drive was a time consuming and exhausting diversion. My main ongoing activity, involves working on a pre-war Lanchester LA 10 Sports Saloon. I hope that my experiences in renovating the Lanchester may strike a chord with other 'hands-on' fanatics.
Building a model windmill recently, provided another diversion - and the opportunity to get my hands full of wood splinters instead of ingrained with oil. Lathe Acquiring and using a lathe, adding even more clutter to what was once a spacious double garage.
I was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, February 1933, having one brother, Wilfred, who is about 15 months older than me; attended a local Grammar School, and got married on 17th of March 1956 to Jill who came from Haydon Bridge - a village just below the Roman Wall about halfway between Newcastle and Carlisle. We moved from Newcastle in 1967, making two further moves over the years in connection with my job, and on my retirement in 1991 we decided to remain in the South East as almost all our old friends in the North East were long gone - and the weather is a lot milder down here. Jill and I have a daughter, Hilary; twin sons, Douglas and Clifford; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their offspring spread around the southern half of England.
