Church Information

All are welcome in St Matthew's Parish. The church was designed by FX Varlede, opened in 1930, consecrated 1950. St Matthews' is a thriving Catholic community with a very active laity. The Parish Priest is Father Alan Devaney and the parish Deacon is Rev. Gerard Buckley.

We have a wonderful Parish Junior and Infant School. Most of our senior school children go to De La Salle in Carr Lane, Croxteth (boys) John Bosco in Stonedale Crescent, Croxteth (girls). Details about the school are outlined below. All parish groups would welcome new members. We have an SVP Society who work for the under privileged, a prayer group, youth club, two Handicapped Lourdes groups, a Union of Catholic Mothers and an RCIA for those who wish to discover more about the Catholic faith. Perhaps you have other parish groups/activities not listed here and would like to see such group/activity at St. Matthew's. Please feel free to speak to Fr.Alan and offer your services. The parish is open to new ideas working on the principal that many hands make light work and it is good to give praise to God together.

Liturgically our people take a very active role as Readers Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Collectors, Sacristans. The Liturgy is enhanced musically by organ playing at the Saturday Evening Mass and by a folk group at the 10:30 Sunday Mass. Artistically we have banner makers and flower arrangers. There is also an enthusiastic group of church cleaners, typists etc. The children have a special Liturgy at the Sunday 10.30 am Mass. We would welcome more help with youth ministry e.g. Children's liturgy helpers and the Confirmation group.
