I visited these two places on the last weekend I was in Christchurch.

First, Lake Tekapo - about 200 miles SW of Christchurch and about 50 miles from Mount Cook. The weather was probably the nicest then of the whole time I was in New Zealand - about 30C, and near clear blue skies.

After walking around Tekapo I headed for Twizel for the night. To get to Twizel you pass the end of Lake Pukaki. At the other end stands Mt Cook. The first shot was of the sunset that I'd thought had long gone - but as I turned the corner in the car this view appeared - awesome!

I then got the following view of Mt. Cook across the lake

and then turned to see moonrise directly the other way.

The following morning I got back to the same place for sunrise - here's the best photo from a little after sunrise

And this one was mid-morning - after heading back to Twizel for breakfast!

To finish, 4 views of Mt. Cook. The first is taken from behind the Red Tarns - a walk come climb up from Mt. Cook village away from Mt. Cook. Mt. Cook is in the distance and Mt. Cook village is just visible in the valley below.

The last 3 photos are taken on the walk towards the Hooker Glacier. The cliff at the far end of the lake in the 2nd photo is the ice edge of the glacier - there's just a couple of million tonnes of rocks on top of this rather dirty looking glacier! The final photo is a zoom in on the summit - in sun for once!
