VERY LARGE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF PIANO MUSIC FOR DISPOSAL
PIANO SOLO, DUET and TWO-PIANO
LEICESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND
A collection of piano music built up by a talented Leicestershire pianist is available for disposal. It has been assembled item by item from dealers and secondhand bookshops over the past fifty years. It would occupy about 80 - 100 ft of library shelf space.
All major and most minor composers from the classical period onwards are heavily represented.
There is very little baroque or early music, no jazz or pop, and nothing by the cacophanists.
The main categories are:
TWENTIETH CENTURY BRITISH ( Elgar, Scott, Bridge, Gal, Gardiner, Grainger, Baines, Rowley, John Ireland, Parry, Moeran, Burrows, etc - virtually the whole solo concert repertoire)
CLASSICAL and ROMANTIC (Chopin, Paderewski, Scriabin, Bennett, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, Grieg, Haydn, Wladidgeroff, Poulenc, Satie, etc - virtually the entire solo concert repertoire)
PIANO DUET - virtually the whole repertoire, including organ and orchestral transcriptions
TWO-PIANO - ditto
The music will be disposed of in alphabetical packaged lots, unless a good home can be found for the whole collection - perhaps a college library or a keen music lecturer or teacher. There is too much stuff to list - it would take hundreds of hours.
If you are able to help with this disposal, or wish to acquire a substantial quantity of this music, please contact me. This is NOT a commercial operation; we are trying to find a home (or homes) for it.
Donations to charity (the local church) will be gratefully accepted. If you are a dealer, terms can be negotiated.
Bulk disposals only. The entire collection is catalogued, but we cannot search for individual items, nor can we arrange delivery. It must be collected.
Please tell other people about this notice.
Thank you.

That's all about the disposal of my friend's collection, which I hope will occur over the next few months. The normal contents of this page are listed below.
As well as information about early keyboard
music and some British piano composers, this site contains
information about the composers Ray Clarke (based
in Castle Douglas), Nigel Deacon (from the Midlands), and Andrew
Lowe-Watson (from Norfolk). There are also some mp3s for you to
hear.
Ray Clarke is a teacher, orchestrator and composer with a special
interest in folktune.
Nigel Deacon writes exclusively for piano and has published over
a hundred miniatures, about half of which are folktune-based.
SUTTON ELMS PUBLICATIONS If you are a pianist and
would like some paper copies of scores, please
email. There is no charge, though I won't mind if you help with the postage. You can download
the underlined pieces below as pdf files:
Nigel and Ray were represented by Portland
Wallis Direct until recently. We can now be contacted directly
via this site.
Andrew Lowe-Watson is a well-known composer and pianist who has written large-
scale works, the latest one being "Trafalgar", performed by the
Moscow International Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Konstantin
Krimetz.
I have compressed the files so people on dialup can hear them; this
gives them an echoey quality. The alternative is big files which are
a nuisance to download.

Ray and Nigel would like to hear from anyone interested in current British
music with a view to performance: concert organisers, promoters,
pianists, chamber groups and small orchestras - amateur or
professional - who would like to try
out our music.
I have spent many years playing early music on the
piano. Often this is not the
instrument for which it was written.
Music for the
harpsichord, clavichord or organ often sounds poor on the
piano. The reasons don't matter; you don't want a
lesson on acoustics in any case. It's obvious.
I have written some notes to point out which of the pieces work on the
piano, and which don't. They are a personal view but I hope they
stimulate a few people to try some music which they would
otherwise have ignored. For this information see the link
at the top of the page....composers by country.
Nigel's wife Alison sings in a choir called THE TEMPO SINGERS. It is based in
Hinckley and run by Chris Banks. There are around 16 members. It
sings both secular and sacred music and includes a lot of madrigals
and early Church music in its repertoire. Please contact us if
you are interested to find out more. We always welcome new singers.
Nigel is a pianist and composer. At the moment he is
making CDs - details above....
Printed scores of Nigel's piano music are produced by
