NOTES
ANGEL STANDING....1994
6 Aug 94. By Jonathan Myerson; Monday play. A strange adult odyssey across decades and continents; the
story of a young woman happy to prostitute herself for science.
With Juliette Aubrey, Timothy West,
Maggie Whiting, Aiden Gillan, Gavin Muir, Paul Panting, Peter Kenney, Cathy Sarah, Elaine Claxton,
Neville Jason, Mark Lambert, Neil Dudgeon, Margaret John, Dan McCorkindale, Peter Whitman, James Taylor;
music composed by Elizabeth Parker of the BBC radiophonic workshop. Produced by Peter Kavanagh.
THE RIDDLE OF THE SANDS....1994
R4, 8.1.94, 7.50pm. Thriller.
SPRING SONATA....1994
R4, 10.1.94. Described by Radio Times as a Jewish black comedy.
THE COURTS OF THE MORNING....1994
R4, 29.1.94. Dramatised by Guy Slater. The republic of Olifa
is rich in minerals, and ripe for revolution. With Ian McDiarmid and
Fiona Francis. Director - Patrick Rayner.
A TRICK OF THE LIGHT....1994
R4, 1.2.94. Two men visit their late friend in a chapel of rest.
UNDERGROUND....1994
R4, 12.2.94.A thriller set in the ancient tunnels of London.
Two plays can be confused with it - "Underworld", by Don
Taylor (a metaphysical adventure through the different parts of Hell),
and "The Great Subterranean Adventure", by Joe Turner - about
an amusement park built in a disused mine.
SURFACE TENSION....1994
R5, 7.3.94. A repeat of a sci-fi story from the famous X minus One
series from America. I'd put it second to "A Gun for Dinosaur". A
civilisation's planet is doomed...their only means of escape is into
a microscopic world. It's a radio adaptation of a well-known
(to sci-fi fans) short story. Unfortunately I do not know the author.
SPOIL HEAP....1994
R4, 10.3.94. My notes for this one are a bit short. They just say "an
optimistic drama". 55m.
PADMATES....1994
R4, 21.3.94. Recorded on location at Strangeways Prison. The play
lasts an hour and is followed by a discussion about the production.
A SECOND SUMMER....1994
R4, 4.4.94. 55m. Family story. With Gwen Watford, David Calder, Joanna Myers,
Elizabeth Mansfield, Barbara Atkinson. Directed by Marion Nancarrow.
THE BRIDESMAID....1994
R4, 16.4.94. Murder mystery, dramatised by Betty Davies. With
Jamie Glover, Rachel Lewis, Francis Jeater, Rachel Atkins. Produced
by Tracey Neal.
ICE IN WONDERLAND....1994
R3, 24.4.94. Radio Times prizewinning drama script 1992.
See "Ice" page. Stylish script and a good story by a wordsmith
who knows his job.
GABRIELLE AND THE GARGOYLES....1994
R4, 25.4.94. Interesting play set in medieval times about a
woman who has a passion and a talent for stone carving.
THE CAMPDEN WONDER...1994
R4, 28.4.94. By Richard Derrington and Roger Hume, of "Archers"
fame. The true account fo the disappearance of William Harrison, a rent collector
in the service of the Campden family in Chipping Campden in 1660.
ANORAK OF FIRE....1994
A hilarious play about life, love and trainspotting. By
Stephen Dinsdale. 28 Jun 94.
Oliver Twist....1994
Marking the 80th Oscars....when Oliver asks for more and is sent into the big wide world from the workhouse, his troubles are only just beginning. With Edward Long, John Grillo,Tim McInnerny, Richard Peace, Adjoah Andoh and Peter Jeffrey. Written by Charles Dickens and dramatised and produced by Nigel Bryant. BBC7 rpt. Feb 08.
