Crossing the Derwent near Grange
Monday October 31st 1988
It had been several years since I had visited this part of the Lakes (25 to be exact), and I vaguely remembered a bridge over the river. (I think now that it was the one at Rosthwaite). Rather than walk back down the road to Grange we decided to take off our boots and socks and wade across. When Bill was halfway across a low flying Tornado startled him, and he fell face down in the water. This incident has caused, over the years, many pointed remarks about disappearing bridges!
