Great Gable from Geeen Gable
Sunday October 30th 1988
The precipitous north face of Great Gable is conspicuous for most of the walk (on the tramway many people mistake Pillar for Gable), and looms ever larger as you progress. It isn't until you reach the summit of Green Gable that you realise that there is indeed a path up the left hand side, and your relief at not having to make a direct ascent makes the rocky scramble up from Windy Gap seem much easier. Even in thick mist you can feel its presence towering over you.
