One Hundred Activity Ideas

14.         Candle Cooking. Drop scones, tin foil pans.

16.         Carving. Potatoes, Soap, a Patrol Totem pole, clothes pegs, tent pegs.

17.         Chair Tennis. Sat on chairs using a balloon as the ball.

18.         Chips. Test and vote on the best local chip shop. Award the winners a certificate to display.

40.       In the Dark. Run Troop night in the dark.

41.         Ingredients. Each patrol is given a copy of a shopping list from which they must create a menu.

42.       International. Correspond with Scouts in another country. Letters, E-mail, Fax.

43.       Invent a TV advertisement. To promote the Troop and perform it for the Group.

44.       Inventions. Make a tent burglar alarm, a water clock, a fly repellent, a weighing measure, a camp hammock, useless gadgets.

45.       Invite the Guides. Troop night, a party, a barbecue.

46.       Juke Box Jury. Each Patrol brings 2 records.

47.       Learn to Sign. Communicate a simple message using sign language.

48.       Light a Fire. Using anything other than a match or lighter. Batteries and wire wool, magnifying glass or friction.

49.       Line Throwing. Using a monkeys fist knot, throw the line through a suspended tyre.

50.       Log rolling. In a local pond.

51.         Make a Brew. On a raft, up a tree, in a thimble.

52.       Make a methylated spirits cooker.

53.       Make a truck. From 2 bikes lashed together, to carry camp gear.

54.       Make and use a Boomerang.

56.       Master Map . Each member of the Patrol is shown a map segment. The Patrol must draw the whole map from memory.

57.       Memory tests. Verbally give some information at the start of the meeting and ask for it back at the end.

58.       Mousetrap. From 12 feet away retrieve a loaded mousetrap without setting off. Use rope, staves etc.

59.       Natural Fashion. On camp evening dress for the meal must be made of natural material.

60.       Needle threading race.

61.         Observation Hike. Do a hike but with observation questions afterwards.

62.       Obstacle Course. Carrying a candle or a raw egg.

63.       Outdoor Cooking. Different types of fires, cooking methods, ethic and regional foods.

64.       Over the Bar. Lash a bar 5 feet off the ground - each Patrol must get over it without touching it.

66.       Parties. Halloween, Bonfire night, Christmas, The Troop birthday, Burns night and Founders day.

78.       Spiders Web. String a web across the hall, Scouts must get through without touching the web.

79.       Stage a Play. With 10 mistakes built into the script for the Troop to spot.

80.       Stilts. Build and try out stilts made from old cans and string or poles.

81.         Stretcher Race. Make your own.

82.       Sweet making. Cold and cooked sweets, toffee etc.

83.       Swimming. Troop night at the pool, flag break in the water, underwater knotting, hopscotch in the water, blowing balloons up under water.

84.       Take you fingerprints using sellotape.

85.       Tent Erection. In gale (all roped together), blindfolded, in the dark, indoors with drawing pins, upside down or in a tree, with no poles.

86.       Theme Tunes. See who can guess recorded theme tunes correctly.

87.       Throw and catch. Throw a ball up, run forward and catch it. The longest distance wins.

88.       Tidy Up. Clean up a public area, get the press involved.

89.       Tie a Clove Hitch. Round a tree from 10 feet away.

90.       Tie and Dye.

91.         Time estimate. Each member must estimate when a minute has passed.

92.       Town Cryer competition. Winner gets a gob stopper !

93.       Tree Climbing. Prussic hitches, highwayman's hitch.

94.       Troop Newsletter. Produced by the Scouts.

95.       Tug of War.

96.       Walk through a postcard. By cutting up a postcard, walk through it.

97.       Water Collection. Build a solar still, a rainwater collecting device.

98.       Wear War paint for the evening.

99.       Woggle Making. Using leather, bone, wood, shells, pieces of junk.

100. Write and perform a Rap. About the Patrol, a camp.
