Meadowhall Shopping Complex.
Some parts of Sheffield's centre have been made into pedestrian precincts, leaving shoppers free to enjoy visiting the various stores without the need to keep a watchful eye on the ever increasing traffic. All of the leading retailers have shops in the City.
Castle Market stands on the site of the old Sheffield Castle, but is due to be moved shortly. Castle Square and Snigg Hill marks the point for the beginning of the major stores, moving along to the High Street and onwards to Fargate. At the end of Fargate, specialised stores can be found in Orchard Square, a small shopping mall. From Fargate it is only a short distance to The Moor, another pedestrian precinct, with most of the established retailers present. The Moor is also the site of a small outdoor market.
Like most modern cities, Sheffield has its out of town shopping centres. Crystal Peaks offers a large food superstore, alongside smaller outlets. A large cinema complex is also to be found here.
The latest shopping centre to be build in one of the suburbs of the City is the Drake - House Precinct. Situated next to the Crystal Peaks Centre, large outlets offer all kinds of goods to the shopper.
Without doubt, the largest and most modern shopping mall is to be found on the Eastern side of Sheffield. Meadowhall Shopping Centre is one of the largest shopping malls in the Country. Every year it attracts many thousands of visitors through its doors, not all of them are from Sheffield of course. Comprising of two floors, most of the large retailers, as well as smaller specialised traders, have premises here. A large dining area, cinema complex, a children's crèche and the wide variety of shops make up the centre. There is also a vast area offering parking spaces for cars, and a Transport Terminal where trains, coaches, local buses, and the City's Tram converge to convey the visitor to and from the Centre. Meadowhall even has it's own helicopter landing area, and the new Sheffield Airport is only a short distance away
