Overhaul 2001

Work carried out on Tamar Lady.

Working Party Update

By Chris Tier

Tamar Lady came out of the water at the end of January for her annual overhaul.
To say the weather was bad between January and May is a bit of an understatement,
            did it rain!

This made getting any external jobs done virtually impossible, February and March
were spent almost completely on internal jobs.

The one exception was that with the help of some members of the club we managed to get
the antifouling completed one Saturday in March.

That involved scraping off any loose antifoul and anything the pressure wash had failed
to remove, priming and 2 coats of antifoul and we were finished by 13:00.
This was just as well because it poured down with rain for the rest of the weekend!
Many thanks to Bill Smith, Richard Walton and Ray Jasper (he missed his wedding
            anniversary!)

It is not a pleasant job but the saying "many hands make light work" is certainly true.

The following few weekends I was still very much restricted in what I could do by the
weather and the fact that I was in the middle of house buying.
It was looking exceedingly unlikely that I would be able to finish the required jobs
prior to my target launch date. The Easter weekend was taken up with moving house so
I had to take a few days off work after Easter and go for a 4-day onslaught to get
            her ready.

Thankfully, Dave Woodard was able to join me for the four days and Geoff Hall was able
            to come down for two.

Dave and myself concentrated on the topsides, cockpit and wheelhouse filling, sanding,
painting etc and Geoff got to work servicing the mechanical bits and pieces (hydraulics,
            gear/throttle etc.)
We also fitted new soundproofing to the engine hatch and to two of the three deck
hatches. Suffice to say that the four solid days work enabled us to complete all the
essential jobs with even time for Dave and myself to give the whole boat a good polish.

I am very grateful to Geoff and especially Dave for their efforts.

The two pictures shown below are of Chris standing by the back of the boat after its re-paint.

The second picture is of Dave Woodard splashing more paint on himself than the hull!
