I decided to create this web site because I have always thought there has been a gap in the history of tap that needed to be filled. I have waited long enough for some one else to cover this subject in vain. So here is my modest effort to put things to rights.

I hope you can forgive some of the little inaccuracies if there are any, as I have never been to Harlem and have relied on historical articles of the time and various biographies. I would have loved to have seen which of the famous clubs and theatres are still standing. But more importantly I would have loved to have included a picture of the area where the Hoofers Club used to be before its demise at the end of the 1940's. I am sure some day I will visit Harlem as I feel drawn to it because of its history and I would like to collect a few pictures of the locations mentioned in this web site so that maybe other people with the same nostalgic interest can take a visual tour of the important historical location associated with the history of Tap.

I must make my apologies to those of you who wish to know where certain facts are obtained and where to read more on certain parts of text that you have found interesting. I am sorry I am not really an academic type of person that meticulously keeps records of where information was found. This would have presented too much of a task, creating glossaries or bibliographies, which in it's self would have prolonged the publishing of this web site.

I have put this site together through my love of tap and the joy it has given me in learning and discovering tap related or indeed Hoofers Club related historical facts. Tap is a never ending discovery of things new that at times makes you feel like you have not even scratched the surface of the essence of technique, After all, it is not the getting there that is important, but the journey its self.
