The Club was formed in 1985 to provide a friendly atmosphere for model flyers in the area to indulge in sport and club flying.
To safeguard this lovely site the membership is restricted, but all applications are considered on an individual basis. There are currently around 35 members per year, with an average turn out of 15 or so hard core regulars at Club flying times, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and Thursday evenings during BST.
Evening Club meetings are held from October to April, on the third Wednesday of the month at a local Indoor Bowls Club, where we can enjoy the odd pint and have a topic of interest for discussion. The strip occupies much discussion and this is when working parties are organised .
Our AGM is held in December and somtimes this can take a full half hour.
Guest members are always welcome and if your are on holiday in the South West, then pay us a visit and either bring a model or have flight on the Club trainer. See how we have to rough it down here in the sticks. Don't forget the flask of coffee.
The flying site is in the centre of Newton Abbot Race Course, for which we pay an annual rent. The Racecourse is a popular venue for various events, and because of this, we publish a list of times when flying is not allowed. The Racecourse has some developed areas near by, and to safeguard the flying site we have a comprehensive Safety Code and Flying Rules booklet backed up by the Club Constitution. All members are required to fly in accordance with these guides.
Club newsletters are written about three times a year on an irregular basis and anyone wishing to submit an article is always welcomed.
