Education Programme - Breaking the Cycle

An Education Programme, "Breaking the Cycle", aimed at young people and their teachers, seeks to help young people avoid entering relationships which are abusive or violent. Contributing to "Breaking the Cycle of Learnt Violence", we have, in association with Theatre ADAD, developed a unique Education Package for use in Schools and Young Offenders establishments.

This programme includes an interactive theatre workshop together with a comprehensive resource handbook for teachers/instructors. The Theatre ADAD programme and The Thames Valley Partnership were recognised by the Cabinet Office and the Home Office as an example of good educational practice in their Women's Unit publication, "Living Without Fear" (June 1999).

A current evaluation on working intensively with (five) schools within the Thames Valley area is informing the future Development of the Education Programme.

All Teachers within Thames Valley schools are receiving a Guide on how to deal with "Violence at Home".

Domestic Violence and The Workplace

The Partnership has recently developed a web link for businesses called "Opening Doors". This link can be added to individual company Internet / Intranet sites thereby making information on Domestic Violence readily available to employees.

Behind Closed Doors

Our "Domestic Violence" programme works in partnership with other agencies to reduce violence in relationships.

We have held six successful Conferences covering all aspects of Domestic Violence. The on going programme has strengthened ties with the Police, Health Services and the Crown Prosecution Service in respect of support to victims, prosecution of perpetrators, and offers training to the Local Forum, Magistrates, Child Protection Committees and Youth Offending Teams across the Thames Valley.

Domestic Violence Intervention Project

This multi agency group is seeking to strengthen and support existing services on a Multi-Agency basis for those dealing with Domestic Violence. It supports the Thames Valley Police pro-arrest policy. It aims to encourage the provision of services for those for whom prosecution is not an option, along with developing comprehensive services for Victims and Hidden Victims. It actively strengthens links with the Health services, and is developing a multi-agency "Risk" assessment tool for practioners.
