  3. 1871 Census - Dean Road, Newchurch, Lancashire, William was married, he was 22, a Railway Porter, born Somersham, Huntingdonshire, his wife was Sarah BATEMAN age 21 a Cotton Sally Minder born Newchurch, Lancashire; There were other BATEMAN's in Newchurch, also born in Somersham but not of this family, I would think either William had come first and then a brother of his or possibly the other way round. James was the Head of the other family born 1823.
  4. 1881 Census - 16 Hibson St, Great & Little Marsden, Lancashire. William and Sarah now had children, William BATEMAN, age 5 a Scholar, born Chivegar, Lancashire, James BATEMAN, age 3, born Nelson, Lancashire and Ellen A BATEMAN, age 1 born Nelson, Lancashire.
  5. 1891 Census - 13 Clifford Street, Great and Little Marsden, Nelson, Lancashire - William was 42 a Carter, born Somersham, Huntingdonshire, his wife Sarah, was 41 a Cotton Weaver, born, Bacup, Lancashire, his children on this Census were: William BATEMAN, aged 15, a Cotton Weaver, born Nelson, Lancashire, James BATEMAN, aged 13, a Cotton Weaver, born Nelson, Lancashire, Ellen A BATEMAN aged 11, born Nelson, Lancashire, Hannah BATEMAN, aged 6 also born Nelson, Lancashire. They had two lodgers, Mary BULLOCK, aged 28, a Cotton Weaver, born Great Harwood, Lancashire, and possibly her daughter, Eliz A BULLOCK aged 3, born Blackburn, Lancashire
  6. 1901 Census - 157 Leeds Road, Great Marsden St John, Nelson, Lancashire. William was 52, a Tripe and Sweet Shopkeeper, born Somersham, Huntingdonshire, his wife Sarah was 51 down as being born in Rosendale, Lancashire. The children were: William BATEMAN, age 26 a Paviour's Labourer (Road Labourer) born Burnley, Lancashire, Ellen BATEMAN, aged 21 a Cotton Weaver, born Nelson, Lancashire, Hannah BATEMAN, aged 16, a Cotton Weaver, born Nelson, Lancashire and John BATEMAN, aged 9 born Nelson, Lancashire. They had a servant, Rachael Braithwaite, aged 16 a General Servant Domestic, born Blackpool, Lancashire.
