  6. I have found a marriage on the BMD for a Elizabeth BEANEY in December 1876 in Thanet, Kent. I am fairly sure that this is the person. She was single in 1871 and we have no information for her after that date. There are two marriages on a page so she could have married a James Henry MILLER of a Charles James GIFFORD. I then searched for both these name using Elizabeth MILLER/GIFFORD, with the right age and born in Ramsgate, Kent. The Elizabeth MILLER gave me a result on the 1881 Census. However although married in 1876 there were children older than this marriage all given as sons and daughters. I looked on the 1871 Census and found James Henry MILLER with these children but with a wife Matilda? MILLER born in Reading. I therefore think that this wife died between 1871 and 1876 and he remarried our Elizabeth. She then had two children by James Henry MILLER. I will in the following notes show the Census returns for 1871 to 1901 for this family and will add a Chart at sometime for the family, as I am sure I will find marriages and children of the children of this family as some of them do not appear on the later Censuses.
  7. 1881 Census - 19 Sussex Street, Ramsgate, Kent - The family of James Henry MILLER was as follows: James Henry MILLER, age 38 Letter Carrier, born Ramsgate, Kent, Elizabeth MILLER, wife,  age 39 born Ramsgate, Kent, John R MILLER, son age 13 Telegraph Messenger, born Ramsgate, Kent, Lucy M MILLER, daughter, age 12, Scholar, born Ramsgate, Kent, William C MILLER, son age 9 born Ramsgate, Kent, George Walter MILLER, son, age 7 born Ramsgate, Kent, Stephen I MILLER, son age 3 born Ramsgate, Kent and Frederick C MILLER, son age 1 born Ramsgate, Kent.
  8. 1871 Census - 19 Sussex Street, Ramsgate, Kent - (see note 6 for an explanation for my reasoning). As you will see that James Henry MILLER was living at the same address in 1871 as he was in 1881, but had a different wife. Ancestry.com has the name as Mallcar C MILLER but I do not think this is right, looking at the Census it looks like Matilda to me. I have found a death on the BMD site for a Matilda C MILLER in Thanet in the June quarter of 1876, it appears that he married Elizabeth in the December quarter, so this would make sense. The family in 1871 was James H MILLER, age 28 Cordwainer (Master), Matilda (Mallcar) H MILLER wife age 2born Reading, Berkshire, James W MILLER, son age 7 Scholar born Ramsgate, Kent, Edwin H MILLER, son, age 5 Scholar, born Ramsgate, Kent, John R MILLER, son, age 4 Scholar, born Ramsgate, Kent and Lucy M MILLER, daughter, age 2 born Ramsgate, Kent.
  9. 1891 Census - 79 Hardness Street, Ramsgate, Kent. The family were as follows: James H MILLER Head, age 48, Postman, born Ramsgate, Kent, Elizabeth MILLER, wife, age 48, born Ramsgate, Kent. William MILLER, son age 17 Lamp Lighter Gas, born Ramsgate, Kent, Stephen MILLER son age 13 Telegraph Messenger, born Ramsgate, Kent. Frederick MILLER, son age 11 born Ramsgate, Kent. There was also a Jane MILLER widow, mother age 92 living on own means, born Deal, Kent. (I just think that this is possibly Jane BEANEY née SUTTON as the age is correct, she would have been a widow as her husband died in 1863 and she was baptised in Dover, Kent, (near to Deal), but of course it could be the mother of James Henry MILLER as it would be if he had given the details.)
  10. 1901 Census - 9 Boundary Road, Ramsgate, Kent - James H MILLER aged 58, Retired Postman, born Ramsgate, Kent, Elizabeth MILLER, wife, age 59, born Ramsgate, Kent, Stephen MILLER, son, age 23 Able Seaman, RN Navy Man born Ramsgate, Kent.
  11. 1861 Census - A James MILLER, aged 18 an Apprentice Bootmaker, born Ramsgate, Kent, was living with a family the family of George LAMBERT Bootmakers at 2 High Street, Folkstone, Kent. I think this is the correct James MILLER, correct age and birthplace and it ties up with his first occupation.
  12. Cannot find on any Census after 1871.
  13. Death for a Jane BEANEY in Thanet district in 1885 age 78 makes this entry fit, but as I cannot find Jane on 1881 Census this is still open to confirmation.

The idea of these charts is to give the same information that appears in the research we have done and put together in various books. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
