Although the first Censuses I looked at the surname was spelt DIFFLEY I think the name should be DIFFEY without the L, I have found Georges family in Wool, Dorset on the 1861 Census and they are spelt DIFFEY and later censuses such as the 1891 and 1901 they are all DIFFEY's. The family were living at Wool, Dorset. The Head was a John Diffey, age 51 born wool, Dorset, his wife was Susannah DIFFEY age 46 born Moreton, Dorset. The family were Joseph DIFFEY, age 22 an Ag Lab born Wool, Dorset, George DIFFEY, age 18 an Ag Lab born Wool, Dorset, William DIFFEY age 12, born Wool, Dorset, Hester L DIFFEY, age 10 born Wool, Dorset, Francis DIFFEY, (son) age 6 Scholar, born Wool, Dorset, and Chaltion? (son) age 3 months, born Wool, Dorset, also with the family was a Ann P HARVEY, niece, age 14 a Scholar, born Wool, Dorset. 1851 Census - Wool, Dorset 1871 Census - Dorset County Asylum, Charminster, Dorset. John was down as a Patient, but occupation still down as Ag Lab. 1871 Census - Wilkes Road, Brading, Isle of Wight. It appears that George's brother Henry also moved to the Isle of Wight, I will make a new Chart for his family. There is a Frank DIFFEY in Chale on the Isle of Wight who is the correct age of this Francis, he is also born in Wool, Dorset. So it is possible it is one and the same person, seeing that other members of the family moved to the Isle of Wight. However I have no way of proving it. There is however on the 1881 Census with George DIFFEY and Theresa DIFFEY née COBB a niece, Kate who is 11 who come from Chale Isle of Wight, so there might be a connection, although I cannot see how it can be a child of Frances because of the ages. 1841 Census - Wool, Dorset
