  2. 1861 Census - 7 Carroway Place, Margate, Kent
  3. I found on the 1871 Census for the family of Thomas and Sarah that there was a Joseph EASTON, nephew living with them. Looking at the sisters of Thomas, there could only be one person Mary who could have married and had a 16 year old son by 1871. I immediately found this family on the 1861 and I will at sometime add a new chart for them. For the present time the information for this family is as follows, address Violet Cottage, Peckham Rye, Camberwell, Surrey, James EASTON, Head, Age 34 occupation Bricklayer Employing 4 men born Peckham, Surrey, Mary E Easton, Wife, Married Age 28 born Kent, Margate, John Easton, Son Age 8 Scholar, born Peckham, Surrey, Joseph H Son Age 6 scholar, born Peckham, Surrey, Edward G Son Age 4 Scholar, born Peckham, Surrey, Harriet S Daughter Age 2 born Peckham, Surrey, Mark W Son Age 3 months born Peckham, Surrey. Also living with them was a William Sullitt Cousin unmarried Age 30 Bricklayer, and squeezed in between lines a Harriet Sullitt with no other details other than occupation Nurse Girl. What a lot of additional information.
  4. 1871 Census - Violet Cottage, Peckham Rye, Camberwell, Surrey, Mary Eastons, husband James must have died as she is down as a widow. The 1871 Census also confirms that this relationship is correct as there are Setterfield visitors. The whole list is as follows: Mary E Easton Widow, Age 38 Annuitant, born Margate, Kent, John E Easton, Son, unmarried, Age 18 Bricklayer, born Peckham, Surrey, (found John EASTON on the 1881 Census at 12 Tappersford Road, Peckham, Camberwell, London, married, wife Alice and four children, will be added when EASTON Chart is included), Edward G Easton, Son 14 Bakers Apprentice, born Peckham, Surrey, Harriet S Easton daughter Age 12 Scholar, born Peckham, Surrey, Mark W Easton, Son Age 10 Scholar, born Peckham, Surrey, Robert W Easton, Son Age 4 born Peckham, Surrey, George W Son Age 2 born Peckham, Surrey. Ann Ayers Boarder Widow Age 53 Annuitant, born Margate, Kent, Francis A Ayers, Boarder Age 21 born Peckham, Surrey, George Setterfield, Visitor, Married, Age 28 Waiter, born Margate, Kent, Ernest G Setterfield, visitors son, Age 1 born Putney, Surrey (what a family), Also note that the mother of Mary E Easton née Setterfield, was a Harriet Ayers and the Boarder was an Ann Ayers, so I believe the whole lot were related. It also appears that George Setterfield who is still down as unmarried above  was married by 1871 and had a son and was visiting his sister. (I have now found family on 1881 Census as Letterfield)[Letterfield keeps cropping up and it appears that the Indexers, American I believe confuse the written S as an L, so worth always searching for the Letterfield, it does not come up as a close match].
  5. Another chart to add, for George Setterfield. In 1881 he and his family were living at 4 Kirkwood Road, Camberwell, Surrey (see note 4 - found as Letterfield on ancestry.com) The family listed were as follows:
George Setterfield, Age 41 Married Waiter, born Margate, Kent, Mary Setterfield, wife 38 born Hasting, Sussex, Ernest, son age 11 born Putney, Surrey, Frank son age 6 born Anerley, Surrey, Geo Son age 4 born Dulwich, Surrey, Mina daughter age 1 born Dulwich, Surrey.
  6. On the 1881 Census I find that Mary Setterfield/Easton has married again (I really will have to put these Charts on as separate charts, but for the moment I am finding it easier just to add to the notes on this Chart. She remarried a Frederick Hurst.  They were at 6 Ulverscroft Road, Camberwell, London and the following are the details. Frederick Hurst, Head Married Age 30 Paperhanger, born Lambeth, Surrey, Mary E Hurst Wife married Age 48 born Margate, Kent, Ellen M Hurst Daughter, Age 7 Scholar, born Lambeth, Surrey, Florence E Hurst, daughter Scholar, born Lambeth, Surrey, Edward G Easton, stepson, Unmarried Bricklayer, born Lambeth, Surrey, George W Easton, Stepson, Age 12 Scholar, born Lambeth, Surrey, Mark Easton, Stepson, Age 20 Bricklayer, born Lambeth, Surrey. Also living with them was a Charles Moon, Boarder, Unmarried Age 20 Plumber and Painter, born Godalming, Surrey.
  7. On the 1891 Census we find Mary back in Margate, her son Mark Easton has married and is living next door. Mary Hurst/Easton/Setterfield is down as Head of family although it says married not widowed. She is living at 5 Neptune Square, Margate, Kent with one son who is down as George E Hurst, but this should be Easton, Single Age 22 Gasfitter, born Peckham, Surrey. Mary is down as Age 57 Housekeeper, born Margate, Kent. Next door at 4 Neptune Square is Mark Easton Head, Age 30 Bricklayer, born Peckham, London, his wife Rose age 24, born Hackney, London, Florence daughter age 6 born Dulwich, London and James son age 3 born Margate, Kent
  8. My detective powers are getting better, on the 1891 Census on Ancestry.com I have found George Setterfield and family, indexed as Merfiela. I could not find him under Setterfield, Satterfield, Letterfield etc, but worked through the family with just the Christian name, rough age, and place of birth and the Merfiela kept cropping up. When you look at the census there is no doubt that it is Setterfield. So the details for this family for 1891 are: Address 4 Kirkwood Road, Camberwell, Surrey - George S Setterfield, Head, Age 50 Waiter (Restaurant) born Margate, Kent, Mary Setterfield, Wife, Age 48, born Hastings, Sussex, Ernest Setterfield, Son, Age 21 Biscuit Baker, born Putney, Surrey, Frank Setterfield, Son, Age 16, Barman, born Anerley, Surrey, George Setterfield, Son, Age 14 Page Boy, born Dulwich, Surrey, Mina Setterfield, Daughter, Age 11 Scholar, born Dulwich, Surrey, Willie Setterfield, Son, Age 8 Scholar, born Nunhead, Surrey. Living with them was a James Miles? Boarder Aged 39 Widower, Clerk Commercial, born Camberwell, Surrey.
  9. 1901 Census - (They finally have it right as George Setterfield on this Census) - details, address 169 Gordon Road, Nunhead, Camberwell, Surrey - George Setterfield, Head, Age 60 Waiter, born Margate, Kent, George Setterfield, son Age 24, Warehouse Porter, born, Dulwich, Surrey, Minnie Setterfield,  daughter, Age 21 born Dulwich, Surrey, William Setterfield, son, Age 18, Commercial Clerk, born Nunhead, Surrey. In 1901 Ernest Setterfield, George's oldest son was a Soldier at Aldershot Military as a Bombardier, Royal Garrison at  Stanhope and Wellington Lines, Aldershot, Hampshire
  10. 1861 - (I think this is the correct family, Edward, right age, born Margate, Carpenter as father. details as follows, again another chart to add: Address 2 Mill Lane, Canterbury, Kent; Edward Setterfield, Head, Age 41 Carpenter, born Margate, Kent, Sarah Setterfield, Wife, Age 40 Carpenter's Wife, born Kent, Lower Hardes, Lydia Setterfield, daughter unmarried, Age 13 Scholar, Kent Canterbury, Sarah Setterfield, daughter Age 11 Scholar, Kent Canterbury, Edward Setterfield, son, Age 9 Scholar, born Kent, Canterbury and an Elizabeth Fagg Cousin, Servant Age 23 born Upper Hardes, Kent.
  11. 1851 - Farm House, Margate, St John the Baptist, Margate, Kent

The idea of these charts is to give the same information that appears in the research we have done and put together in various books. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
