  1. Birth place given on 1881 census
  2. Elizabeth lived with her youngest son and his family at 31 Terrace Street, Gravesend, Kent for the last years of her life until just before her death when she went into a home.
  3. Maud POVEY said her Grandmother had always lived with them, so assume Henry died before her birth in 1923
  4. Told he is the oldest, but as he does not appear on the 1881 census have left him here, he could have left home by the time of the 1881 census as he would have been around 23 but that would have made his parents, around 18 when they had him.
  5. On a letter from Elizabeth Maud STEDMAN to her daughter Maude.
  6. The 1891 Census seen by me on 1st October 1996, reads as follows and gives us one or two problems: Address 59 Charles Street, Stone, Kent. John (Head) 41 Bricklayer, Elizabeth (Wife) 41 born Middlesex, William (S) 22 General Labourer, Thomas (S) General Labourer, Thomas (S) 21 Soldier, Fannie (D) 19 General Labourer–(so what happened to James Redman who appeared on the previous census and where did Fannie come from, and could she really be a General Labourer), Mabel (D) 17 (still no sign of a May, so assume one and the same person) Maud (D) (Our main relation, but changes from Elizabeth to Maud every time we see it), Alfred (S) 12, Alfred (S) 10 (two children close together with the same name, think this really should have been Arthur), Sydney (S) 5 (everyone says that Sydney was the oldest but here he appears on the census as the second to youngest), Percy (S). All born at Northfleet other than Thomas and Fanny who were born at Gravesend. On the previous census it was Thomas and James Redman who were born at Gravesend.
  7. Family still living at 59 Charles Street, Stone Kent in the 1891 census.
  8. A list of births of the family of Henry John STEDMAN found by Gladys WOOD née THOROGOOD at the beginning of 1998 indicates that the full name of Elizabeth BARRY was Mary Ann Elizabeth BARRY, this is the first indication that she had any other names. This might make it possible to find her marriage and birth certificates. It also gave us a complete list of birth dates for all the children, making it even more unlikely that the name of Fanny which appears in the 1891 census was correct. I have now found her marriage certificate which uses the name Elizabeth. I have therefore put Elizabeth back as the first name and followed them with the two other in parenthesis.
  9. 1871 Census - 42 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
  10. 1901 Census - 32 Factory Road, Northfleet, Kent. Arthur and Percy were with Mabel and her husband on this census.
  11. Elizabeth's father was a Redmond BARRY he was a Tailor. Although in 1867 he was in Whitechapel, on the 1861 Census he was living at Sousecoset? (Somerset)  Street, Gravesend, Kent. He was born in Ireland which confirms information we had about the family. The mother was a Catherine and there was another sibling, James. I will put a Chart on for the Barry family.
  12. 1893 - 110 High Street, Northfleet, Kent - The marriage certificate which I have on a CD Disc for Redmond and Tryphena is very feint on the right hand side and I cannot read Tryphena's fathers name, his occupation or the witnesses names other than one is HERRINGTON.
  13. 1869 Victoria Cottages, Northfleet, Kent (at baptism of William John)
  14. Percy was the youngest according to his daughter.
  15. For many years I have had James's second name down as REDMAN, but I realised that possibly it was given to him as the name of his mother's father and looking on the BMD this is the case. So he was registered as REDMOND, he appears in lots of places as REDMAN.
  16. Death details for Sydney taken from NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, it shows the name of Sydney's father as Henry John so I think it is correct.
  17. 1911 Census - 5 Portland Place, Mill Lane, Wes Thurrock, Grays, Essex
  18. 1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
  19. 1911 Census - 631 Kingston Road, Raynes Park, Surrey

The idea of these charts is to give the same information that appears in the research we have done and put together in various books. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
