  1. In the Gravesend Kelly’s Directory for 1849/50, Thomas STEDMAN is given as Bricklayer, Leather Bottle Lane, Northfleet. This Thomas is the most likely.
  2. 1881 Census gives this information about Elizabeth, (the fact she gives Hundred of Hoo, Kent as her birth place might allow us to find out more about her). A granddaughter with the name Laura Stedman was staying with her on the night of the census, she was 15 and a domestic servant. As yet I have not found a family to connect her with.
  3. 1871 - Thomas and Elizabeth had a niece Ann aged 9, born Northfleet, staying with them on the night of the census. On the 1871 Census Elizabeth gave her place of birth as Aston, Kent.
  4. 1901 Census  I have found an Alfred STEDMAN, aged 54, born Northfleet, Kent, making him tie in exactly with this Alfred STEDMAN, living at Back Street, Rainham, Essex. He was a House Decorator. His wife was Annie STEDMAN aged 51 born Gravesend, Kent and their Granddaughter was with them a Emma WOODS aged 4 born Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I will try and find out more from previous Censuses. I will add a chart at some time for this family.
  5. 1891 Census - Alfred STEDMAN is indexed as STEADMAN. He is already in Rainham, Essex as the 1901 Census at 2 Pitt Place, Back Street, Rainham, Essex. Details of family are Alfred STEDMAN, aged 44, Painter born Northfleet, Kent, Annie STEDMAN, wife aged 40 born Gravesend, Kent and Annie STEDMAN, daughter, aged 19 born Wormington, Essex.
  6. 1881 Census - Alfred STEDMAN is indexed as STEADMAN. His address is No 3 Pitt Place, Rainham, Essex. He is 33 and a Painter and House Decorator. His wife is Ann Eliza STEDMAN on this Census  and is aged 30 but born correctly in Gravesend, Kent and his daughter, Annie is 9 and is down as being born in Rainham, Essex. She is down as a Scholar. I think that Annie must have married a person named WOODS as she appears as though she is the only child of Alfred and Ann.
  7. 1861 Census - Prudention Cottage, Northfleet, Kent
  8. 1851 Census - Leather Bottle Lane, Northfleet, Kent
  9. 1841 Barracks Field, Northfleet, Kent
  10. Marriage, IGI
  11. On the 24th January 2008 a Cynthia Caie contact me from New Zealand with information about Elizabeth STEDMAN born 1833 on the Chart above. This has gave me the person she married. From this I have found out a lot more information. A Chart will have to added to show this. I did not pick this marriage up before as on the BMD the Elizabeth STEDMAN marriage in 1853 does not appear. Now I know she married George HANCOCK, he comes up correctly, but there are two men on the page and only one female and it is not Elizabeth.
  12. 1861 Census - Northfleet Hill, Northfleet, Kent.  There were four children on this Census, all born Northfleet, Kent, George 7, Alfred 5, William 4 and Thomas 8 months. (I am told by Cynthia that there was a Edward Aubrey HANCOCK born in 1862 so will have to find on the 1871 Census as well.
  13. 1871 Census - Northfleet Hill, Northfleet, Kent.
1881 Census - The Hill, Northfleet, Kent. There was a Charles BAKER, aged 40 a Boarder, and a Labourer, born Bermondsey with the family.
1891 Census - 21 The Hill, Northfleet, Kent. It appears that Elizabeth had remarried. Frederick was with her and a Edward HANCOCK, aged 7 a Grandson, born Northfleet, Kent

The idea of these charts is to give the same information that appears in the research we have done and put together in various books. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
