  1. 1861 Lemon Lane, Ewhurst, Surrey - There is a George WALLER down as son-in-law on this Census, which would suggest he was the husband of a female to be down thus, but I think is should mean Step Son which in that case would fit the position we have shown.
  2. 1871 with son John at Ellen’s Green, Ewhurst, Surrey
  3. Father - Francis LONGHURST - Labourer- born about 1760
  4. 1839 Address for both at time of marriage was the Poorhouse, Cranley, Surrey
  5. 1841 - A Rebecca LONGHURST at Green Lanes, Rudgwick, Sussex, with Daniel LONGHURST Age 2, Ag Lab (crossed beside it so although Daniel has had a 0 added after the 2 to make him 20 we feel he was only 2) and George WALLER and also an Ann who is down as 8 so we feel it is Mary Anne on the Chart above). No husband present.
My sister writes about this entry on the 1841 Census - "I think this information about Daniel LONGHURST is incorrect. There is a son Daniel for
Daniel and Rebecca baptised in 1839 on family.search and on the 1851 census, there is a  son Daniel age 12 So I looked at the 1841 census again.
In the age column the "2" has been entered in line with the units position of other ages, and then a "0" has been squashed in beside the "2".  In the occupation column there is "Ag Lab" with a cross beside it. I think this entry should be for Daniel LONGHURST age 2 son of Daniel and Rebecca, with no occupation and that the "Ag Lab" occupation belong to step-brother George WALLER"
  6. 1871 A George WALLER is lodging at Spooner Cottage, Cranley, Surrey with Edward WALLER. George is shown as Edward’s brother, but gives his age as 31. He was born at Rudgwick , Sussex and was an Ag Lab.
  7. 1851 Census - Ewhurst, Surrey. This Census from is not like most of the others, there is no address part on the left hand side, just the names, so I assume everyone in Ewhurst, just came under that Village. It does add a child for Daniel and Rebecca which we did not have on this Chart before.
  8. 1881 Census - Horsham Rd Dorks, Warnham, Sussex - Rebecca is down as a Mother, but also a Pauper, everything is correct, age, place of birth etc, but not certain who she is staying with if she is the Mother. She is with a Mary Ann COOK, who is the Head of Household, age 48 it looks like a W next to her name so assumed she is a Widow and she was born in Rudgwick. To be 48 Mary would have been born around 1833, so I can only assume that the child we have down as Ann illegitimate child of Rebecca is the child in question, and I will work on this assumption. She has lots of children on the 1881 Census and I will make a Chart accordingly. They are Arthur COOK, aged 17 an Ag Lab born Cuckfield, Sussex, Edwin COOK, aged 13, an Ag Lab, born Shipley, Sussex, Walter COOK, aged 11, a Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex, George COOK aged 10, a Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex and John COOK, aged 8, a Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex
My sister write this about the 1881 Census - "1881 Dorks, Horsham Road, Warnham, Sussex. Was this Rebecca? If so, who is Mary Ann COOK? Was she a daughter of Daniel LONGHURST? She was a Mary WALLER who appears at different times to use the names Mary, Mary Ann or Ann. We think, therefore, she was the Ann who appeared on the 1841 census above. Mary Ann COOK Head widow (48) born Rudgwick, Sussex (she was 42 in 1871!) Arthur COOK son unmarried (17) Ag Lab born Cuckfield, Sussex Edwin COOK son unmarried (13) Ag Lab born Shipley, Sussex, Walter COOK son unmarried (11) Scholar born Shipley, Sussex, George COOK son unmarried (10) Scholar born Shipley, Sussex, John COOK son unmarred (8) Scholar born Shipley, Sussex, Rebecca LONGHURST mother widow (90) Pauper born Slinfold, Sussex"
  9. 1871 Census - Pollards Hill, Shipley, Sussex. From Note 8 I looked at the 1871 Census. The family is as follows on this Census and James COOK, the head is alive in 1871. He is 48, an Ag Lab and born in Twineham, Sussex, his wife Mary Ann is down as being 42 and born in Rudgwick, Sussex, the children are as follows: James, 14 born Twineham, Alfred, 11 born Keymer, Sussex, Mary Ann, age 9 a Scholar, born Keymer, Sussex, Arthur, age 6 a Scholar, born Cuckfield, Sussex, Harry, son, age 4 a Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex , Edwin 3 born Shipley, Sussex and Walter 1 born Shipley, Sussex. There was also a Henry FRANCIS a lodger with them.
  10. 1861 Census - Rootery/Rookery, Keymer, Sussex. - Taken us back another 10 years and we have James COOK, aged 35 an Ag Lab born Twineham, Sussex, Maryanne (as this on this Census) aged 30 born Rudgwick, Sussex, Leonard aged 9 an Ag Lab born Twineham, Sussex, William aged 7 born Twineham, Sussex, James aged 5 born Twineham, Sussex, Edward 4, born Twineham, Sussex, Alfred, aged 1 born Keymer, Sussex. A new chart and lot of children to add.
  11. Cannot find a definite for James COOK, or Anne WALLER (or alternatives on the 1851 Census)
  12. 1841 Census - Worth, Sussex with William MITCHELL (20), John Marten (15) and John HOBBS (20) all born in Sussex
  13. IGI Marriage
  14. There is an IGI marriage as shown above. Only one Noah LONGHURST comes up on the IGI and on the Census returns. However on the Census returns although the wife is Mary the birth date given each time is for 1823 not 1820 although he is born in Rudgwick. I would think it is the same person
  15. Henry appears on the 1861 and 1871 Census once as born in 1816 and once as 1816 with Anne as a wife on one and Mary A as a wife on the other, the IGI shows the marriage I have above, which I would think is the correct one.
  16. Possible marriage on the IGI for Sarah.
  17. We understand that there were four more children other than the ones shown for Daniel LONGHURST and Sarah PARSONS, at present we do not know there names so I have not put them on the Chart above. In total this would mean there were 18 children and the format I am using would mean they would not show very well across the screen. I have with a little bit of detective work managed to find these four children, they are:
William LONGHURST - baptised 26 March 1809 Thakeham, Sussex
James LONGHURST baptised 25th November 1810 West Chiltington, Sussex
Rebecca LONGHURST baptised 3rd November 1811West Chiltington, Sussex
John LONGHURST baptised 20th November 1814 West Chiltington, Sussex, England
I think possibly that I should add these children as I am now finding marriage details of the other LONGHURST children.
  18. 1881 Rudgwick, Sussex. There was a George WALLER (shown born 1831 age 50) Agricultural Labourer who slept in a barn.
  19. 1891 Furzen Lane, Ewhurst, Surrey (shown born 1831 age 60). Lodging with H L GROOMBRIDGE (46) Farm Labourer born Ewhurst, Surrey, his wife H
GROOMBRIDGE born Slinfold, Sussex and children Henry (19) Farm Labourer born Slinfold, Sussex, Ellen (12), E L (7), B E (3) and F E (6 months) all born Ewhurst, Surrey
  20. 1861 Cranley Lane End, Ewhurst, Surrey with lodger Henry CHARMAN, widower age 77, Almsman from Abinger, Surrey
  21. 1871 Ellen’s Green, Ewhurst, Surrey with Emily, aged 10, as Housekeeper. Also at same address was the mother of John WALLER, Rebecca LONGHURST, now a widow, age 80. There was also a Walter WALLER, age 16, Ag Lab, born Cranley, as a patient in Cranleigh Hospital on the night of the Census 1871
  22. 1881 Maybrook Cottage, Ewhurst, Surrey
  23. 1841 A John WALLER Age 15, Ag Lab was living at Hyes, (See page 1/4), Rudgwick, Sussex with Peter WALDER, a Farmer, his wife Hannah and their children, as well as John PASSPTON(?) Age 75 of Independent means. Also living in the same property were 2 other farmers, 3 other Ag Labs and a young girl
  24. 1851 A John WALLER Age 25, Ag Lab was lodging in Rudgwick Street with Edward DIKNERS, his wife Sarah and their four children
  25. In
    Loving Remembrance
    of
    JOHN WALLER
who was called from this life suddenly
    December 22nd 1897
    Age 74 years
In the midst of life we are in death
    Also in Loving Memory of
    ELLEN
    wife of the above
who died August 27th 1899 Aged 61 years
Inscription on Tombstone in Rudgwick Churchyard
  26. 1871 Spooners Cottage, Cranleigh, Surrey with Edward’s brother George. However, the age given by George does not correspond with that on WALLER Chart 0600.
  27. 1851 Godleys, Rudgwick, Sussex. Henry gave his age as 36 (birth date 1815)
  28. 1861 Farthings, Rudgwick, Sussex. Henry gave his age as 44 (birth date 1817)
  29. 1891 Gravelt, Rudgwick, Sussex
  30. 1871 Tewsley Common, Haslemere, Surrey
  31. 1881 Fisher Lane, Chiddingfold, Surrey. Henry shown as a widower
  32. Other siblings of Sarah PARSONS on the IGI are as follows:
    PARSONS baptised 1773 Thakeham, Sussex
Jane PARSONS baptised 31st March 1776 Thakeham, Sussex
Catherine PARSONS baptised 24th May 1778 Thakeham, Sussex
William PARSONS baptised August 1782 Thakeham, Sussex
Esther PARSONS baptised 15th January 1784 Thakeham, Sussex
It would appear that the first child was unnamed so I would think that it was baptised very young and died soon after.
  33. Parents for Sarah PARSONS are shown on the IGI as William and Jane
  34. 1901 Census - Pondtail Cottage, North Horsham, Sussex. John was with a Henry SOUTHERN aged 70 born Scoling, Kent, who was a Stock Man on Farm and his wife Mary A SOUTHERN aged 68 born Rudgwick who we believe is his mother who had married again.
  35. 1891 Census - 62 Trafalgar Street, Horsham, Sussex. Birth places not quite right but certain this is correct family. Arthur is down correctly as Stepson.
  36. 1851 Census - Shipley, Sussex - Children - Clara 6 born Shipley, Sussex and Elizabeth 1 born Shipley, Sussex.
  37. 1861 Census - Shipley, Sussex - Children - Elizabeth 11 Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex. There was an Ambrose, COOPER aged 28 an Agricultural Labourer, born Ashington, Sussex with the family.
  38. 1871 Census - Horsham Workhouse, North Horsham, Sussex.
  39. 1881 Census - Dragon? Green, Shipley, Sussex. Noah's daughter Elizabeth has married a William VENN aged 34 a General Labourer, born Shipley, Sussex and Noah was living with them. He is down as a Widower, aged 58 an Agricultural Labourer, born Rudgwick, Sussex. Children George 13 a General Labourer, born Shipley, Sussex, Albert 9 a Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex, Jane 5 a Scholar, born Shipley, Sussex, and Frederick 1 born Shipley, Sussex
  40. 1851 Census - Hurstland, Rudgwick, Sussex. Henry on this Census is down as being born in 1821 which would make him appear to be the wrong Henry, but on each of the following censuses he gets older and by the 1881 he is down as being born in 1816, so I am fairly sure we have found the correct person. Children: Ann 5 born Rudgwick, Sussex, John 3 born Capel, Sussex, Mary 1 born Rudgwick, Sussex. They had a servant an Emily PENYER aged 14 born Wishers? Green, Sussex
  41. 1861 Census - Lodmore Hill, Rudgwick, Sussex. (down as being born 1818 on this Census) Children - (all born Rudgwick) Ann 16, Mary 10, Matt? (son) 9, George 6, Caroline 4, Emily 1.
  42. 1871 Census - Haven, Rudgwick Sussex. I am certain this is the correct couple, but at present this is the first Census I have found them on. I should hopefully now be able to find them on others, now I know they were alive in 1871. (On this Census he is down as WOOD which is the name he married as, on all other Censuses he is down as WOODS and all his children were baptised as WOODS)
  43. 1861 Census - Heathers 2, Rudgwick, Sussex (down as WOODS on this Census). Children on this Census - Jane 12 and Eliza 6 both born Rudgwick. A James CHANDLER, a Lodger, aged 60 a Carpenter born Studham, Sussex with the family on this Census.
  44. 1841 Census - ? Blue Ship, Rudgwick, Sussex (again down as WOODS on this Census). Children on this Census - Mary, 9, James 8 and Harriott 10 months.
  45. IGI baptisms for WOODS with Henry as father and Mary as mother, the names I have found on the 1841 and 1861 Census tie up, but there are a lot more. At this time I still have not found family on 1851 Census.
Mary WOODS baptised 19th March 1832 Rudgwick, Sussex
James WOODS baptised 10th November 1833 Rudgwick, Sussex
Maria WOODS baptised 29th November 1835 Rudgwick, Sussex
Ellen WOODS baptised 15th October 1837 Rudgwick, Sussex
Harriet WOODS baptised 20th September 1840 Rudgwick, Sussex
Peter WOODS baptised 1st January 1843 Rudgwick, Sussex
Ann WOODS baptised 2nd March 1845 Rudgwick, Sussex
Jane WOODS baptised 13th May 1849 Rudgwick, Sussex
William WOODS baptised 7th September 1851 Rudgwick, Sussex
Hannah WOODS baptised 7th November 1852 Rudgwick, Sussex
Eliza WOODS baptised 7th January 1855 Rudgwick, Sussex
  46. 1851 Census - Parish Cottages, Rudgwick, Sussex. With the information from the baptisms above I have now found on this Census (down as WOODS and Mary down as Marg). Children - (all born Rudgwick) Harriet 11 Scholar, Ann 6, Peter 8 Scholar, Emily 4 and Jane 2 (we do no appear to have a baptism for Emily on the list above)
  47. IGI baptism.  - Clara LONGHURST child of Noah and Mary was born on 27th December 1844 in Shipley Sussex and baptised on 2nd February 1845 in Shipley, Sussex. From this there are the following baptisms for the children of Noah and Mary
Anne LONGHURST baptised 28th February 1847 Shipley, Sussex
Elizabeth LONGHURST baptised 3rd February 1850 Shipley, Sussex
Amelia LONGHURST baptised 9th July 1854 Shipley, Sussex
Rebecca LONGHURST baptised 5th October 1856 Shipley, Sussex
  48. IGI baptisms for the children of Henry and Ann LONGHURST
Ann LONGHURST baptised 24th May 1846 Rudgwick, Sussex
Mark LONGHURST baptised 2nd May 1852 Rudgwick, Sussex
George LONGHURST baptised 6th November 1853 Rudgwick, Sussex
Matthew LONGHURST baptised 7th January 1855 Rudgwick, Sussex
Emily LONGHURST baptised 6th May 1860 Rudgwick, Sussex
William LONGHURST baptised 6th May 1863 Rudgwick, Sussex
  49. 1841, 1851, 1861 Census Not found
  50. 1841 Census not found
  51. 1851 Keymer, Henfield, Sussex. Entered as Ann. Indexed on ancestry.com as WALDER. Servant to George HERRINGTON (40) Farmer of 104 acres employing 3 men and 1 boy, born Chittington, Sussex, his wife Jane (36) born Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, son George (3) born Henfield, Sussex, mother Jane HERRINGTON (78) widow and Aunt Harriet FREEMAN (55) widow both born Thakeham, Sussex. Other servants were Robert KERSAT(?) (22) unmarried born Henfield, Sussex and James COOKE (25) unmarried born Twineham, Sussex both Ag Labs. (Preumably this James COOKE was Ann/Mary Ann/Maryann's future husband)
  52. 1851 Census - Gendons, Shipley, Sussex (this at the present time is only a possiblity, William LONGHURST on this Census is down as being born in 1807 in Thakeham, Sussex, so two years out on the date his was baptised but I think this is more than likely this William. Also his wife was born where he was baptised. Children on this Census - William 9? (could be 7 or 8 as there is a line through) but he is down as an Agricultural Labourer so I have gone for the oldest he could be, as it is definitely on a single figure. Henry 6 a Scholar and Mary 4, all three of them born in Shipley, Sussex.
  53. 1871 Census - Road, Thakeham, Sussex. (born 1808 on this Census). William and Mary had no children with them, but there was a lodger, an Alfred GOLDS a retired farmer. aged 48 born Worminghurst, Sussex
  54. IGI baptisms for children of a William and Mary LONGHURST in Shipley, Sussex. You will see that William, Henry and Mary ties up with the 1851 Census, Note 52 above. The rest fits nicely between the dates they were baptised, so I would think they are all members of the same family.
Elizabeth LONGHURST - baptised 12th January 1840 Shipley, Sussex (born 6th December 1839)
William LONGHURST - baptised 28th December 1841 Shipley, Sussex (born 17th December 1841)
Henry LONGHURST - baptised 2nd June 1844 Shipley, Sussex (born 19th April 1844)
Mary LONGHURST - baptised 30th August 1846 Shipley, Sussex (born 7th July 1846)
Sarah LONGHURST - baptised 4th April 1852 Shipley, Sussex
Fanny LONGHURST - baptised 3rd September 1854 Shipley, Sussex
actual birth dates are given for the first four.

The idea of these charts is to give the same information that appears in the research we have done and put together in various books. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching.
