Daggers involvement in the Doris Barker trophy was ended on Sunday in a narrow defeat in a very entertaining game. Despite enjoying the majority of possesion in the first half, Aztec could find no way past a resolute Dagenham defence with Les Gillham making his debut in goal outstanding. In fact it was the Daggers who carved out the better chances on the break as Paul O'Driscoll saw a shot kicked off the line and a mixture of post and goalkeeper denied Scott Thorne. The boys also hit the bar and had a strong penalty appeal turned down. Despite this the half finished scoreless. The second half saw Dagenham come under increased pressure, but again defending well. The turning point in the game came midway through the half when a speculative shot somehow found it's way into the net. Forced to push on for an equaliser Daggers were punished further when a well placed shot doubled the score. Undaunted by this it was Aztec who suddenly found themselves on the back foot as Kieran Courtney, and Thorne went close before O'Driscoll pulled a goal back with a fine finish with only minutes remaining. Despite finishing with a flourish there was no further scoring.
