Daggers players and supporters came away from their first ever Echo League A Division game wondering how they had not only lost, but lost so heavily. The boys made a bright start and carved out chances at regular intervals and kept the Cowley team pinned back in their own half for long spells. Unfortunately loose finishing and some "interesting" offside decisions meant that the opposition goalkeeper was rarely tested and the Daggers worst fears were realised, when minutes from half time, in probably Cowley's first attack of the game a right wing cross was headed home. Dagenham started the second half as they had the first, still creating chances but not finishing them. The killer blow came 10 minutes into the second half when a hopeful right wing cross somehow found it's way into the back of the net. Minutes later a Cowley corner resulted in their third goal from an unmarked header. The Daggers thought they had a chance, but an extremely loud and concerted appeal for a penalty for handball was waved away. The scoring was completed soon after when a goalmouth scramble ended with the ball being prodded home. In the end, this game came down to taking chances, unfortunately on this occasion the boys were found wanting. However, if we continue to show the same level of commitment and creativity it will not be too long before those chances are turned into goals.
