What turned out to be Daggers final match of 2000 was played at a very wet and muddy Wansted Flats. Dagenham started out by far the stronger team, playing very attractive passing football despite the conditions. It was no surprise when they took the lead halfway through the first half thanks to a fine Harry Short finish. Instead of then pushing on for a second the boys appeared to sit back and allow Westward to attack them. Eventually the home teams pressure paid off and two quick goals allowed them to finish the half on top. The second half started very much as the first had ended with the game now becoming more physical. When Westward scored a third goal midway through the 2nd half the game seem settled as the ball was bogged down in midfield for long periods. With time almost up Paul O'Driscoll pulled back what seemed a consolation goal with a cool finish. However Daggers are made of sterner stuff and with the last kick of the game Kieran Courtney stabbed home the equaliser sparking off a synchronised "Klinsmann", much to the dismay of my wife who's turn it was to wash the kit.
